The Fairfax County Health Department is the largest public health department in Virginia, serving 1.2 million residents from diverse ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds throughout Fairfax County, as well as the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church and the towns of Herndon, Vienna and Clifton. Identifies and investigates priority Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) cases to prevent and control the spread of these infections in the Fairfax Health District. Performs field investigation of priority STI/HIV cases to identify all at-risk partners, provides staff support and epidemiological direction for five county clinics, and provides education, information and guidance to health department staff, hospitals, laboratories, physicians and other community health providers in the prevention and treatment of STI/HIV.

Note: This is a grant funded position.
The hourly rate will note exceed the midpoint of $38.26/hour.

Employment Standards

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelors degree in health education, human services, or a directly related field; plus one year of experience in communicable and/or chronic disease education, investigation or other types of health-related work involving considerable public contact.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license
AED-Required within 60 days
CPR -Required within 60 days

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a driving record, and a Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer.
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, and requires walking, standing, sitting (for long periods of time), and kneeling, reaching, bending, climbing stairs; may be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer; Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Generally, works in an office environment yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. Ability to drive a motor vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Robust knowledge of public health principles and practices in the prevention and control of sexually transmitted infection, including HIV. Ability to plan, develop and verbally deliver health education materials to specific target populations. Experience working independently. Must communicate effectively through the use of verbal, written and electronic means.
