Job Title: Community Educator

Purpose
This Community Educator facilitates the center’s school-based child abuse prevention program. Through these evidence based and developmentally appropriate curricula, students are educated and empowered with information and strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to bullying, cyberbullying, all types of abuse, and online dangers.

_ Key Responsibilities and Duties _

  • Responsible for the facilitation of the Monique Burr Foundation’s Child Safety Matters and Teen

Safety Matters

  • Prepare required materials and handouts weekly
  • Provide teachers and/or other appropriate school personnel with demographic data and evaluation forms
  • Collect demographic data and evaluation forms upon completion of the program
  • Complete data entry for electronic program files
  • Appropriately respond to any disclosures of abuse by making a report to the Department of Child

Services within the required time frame

  • Give presentations to community members and/or parent groups as needed, which may require occasional evening hours
  • Attend trainings as required
  • Assist with community presentations of the Stewards of Children program
  • Assist with routine cleaning and maintenance of the center’s facility
  • Other duties as assigned

Success Criteria

The Community Educator must be a strong communicator, have excellent written and oral communication skills, along with facilitation experience and strong interpersonal skills. They must be comfortable speaking about sensitive topics such as child abuse of all types, including sexual abuse.

Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a cooperative manner with diverse groups and the ability to effectively speak and interact with children, parents, and professionals in the community. The

Community Educator must be able to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment, and be able to work in a challenging environment.

This position will require a flexible schedule with availability during the hours schools are in session.

Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and auto insurance are required. Must be able to pass thorough state and federal background checks.

Required Experience and Education

  • Associate’s Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or another human services related position is preferred.
  • Two years of experience working in the field of children services, education, training facilitation, or public speaking
  • A combination of relevant experience and education may be accepted in lieu of a degree

Reports To
Lead Forensic Interviewer for scheduling, work flow planning, and other routine task assignments.

Supervised By
Executive Director

FSLA Status
Non-exempt

Physical Demands

This position needs to be able to move about inside the office to access files, equipment, etc. Will need to be able to routinely move supplies and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds in and out of schools and multiple classrooms.
