UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability seeks a dynamic professional to serve as a Communications and Events Specialist. The Specialist will be a key player in promoting IoES research, education, and outreach activities dedicated to the interrelated issues of environment, sustainability, and justice.

The Specialist will be responsible for creating digital content including text, video, photos, audio, and data visualizations. They will help to build the IoES brand as the primary day-to-day manager of the Institute's social media channels, manager of photographic and graphic assets, and will assist in the development of communication to support our major events.

In collaboration with the Communications Director, Designer/Developer, Director of Strategic Partnerships & Community Engagement, and the IoES leadership team, the Specialist will contribute to the development of a strategic communications plan and a calendar of communications for external and internal UCLA audiences that highlights achievements in research, academics, and outreach.

The Specialist will collaborate with faculty, students, staff, and alumni to elevate successes though digital content creation, visual assets, social media content, and enhancements of online profiles.

The Specialist will collaborate with partners across UCLA's campus to ensure that IoES-generated content benefits as wide a set of university stakeholders as possible. They will ensure that all communications are in line with UCLA brand guidelines, reflecting a professional level of quality and conveying the school's brand and visual identity. They will track and report annually on the reach and impact of social media and other communications campaigns.

The Specialist will also collaborate with the Director of Strategic Partnerships & Community Engagement and IoES faculty and staff to support IoES events including asset development, communications, and marketing. They will also provide in-person and/or online support for planning and execution of major public and campus events.

This position is currently offered as a hybrid position, pending any changes to public health conditions and updates to UCLA policies.

Qualifications

Required/Preferred

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required

Thorough understanding of social media and other digital platforms.

Required

Two or more years of experience managing organizational social media accounts, such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Required

Demonstrated ability to effectively use social media and write for public audiences.

Required

Excellent visual media and design skills including photography, videography, and graphic design

Required

Excellent interpersonal skills to work harmoniously with other staff, academic leaders, faculty, students, and to represent the institute to donors and event guests.

Required

Organizational skills to coordinate and track written, photo and video content, and to arrange material into cohesive format.

Required

Demonstrated ability to conceptualize communications in a strategic way to promote organizational goals.

Required

Demonstrated ability to deliver assets on time and adhere to a calendar of production.

Required

Experience with image-editing and word processing software.

Required

Experience writing and editing using WordPress or a similar content management system.

Experience creating videos for websites and social media accounts.

Experience photographing people, places, and events.

Preferred

Event experience - working with university departments and outside vendors from planning stage to event wrap up.

Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
