Job Description

  • Crafts and edits compelling content including blog posts, social media posts, polls, quizzes, articles, brochures, news releases and press statements; writes public service announcements for radio and television.
  • Edits and, with others, prepares articles for agency publications such as formal reports, monthly bulletins, and newsletters; prepares designs and writes text for fliers, brochures, and training manuals.
  • Collects and compiles data and statistics on agency programs, activities, and social channels for developing promotional projects or in response to requests for information; clips newspaper articles of interest to the agency and places in scrapbook; maintains files and records.
  • Represents the agency at various community organization gatherings to promote and inform them of the agency's activities; addresses professional, business, civic, and social organizations on agency activities.
  • Contacts, establishes, and maintains effective relationships with various types of mass informational media such as local radio and television stations and local newspapers to publicize agency events or to inform the public of the availability of services.
  • Displays and staffs exhibits and prepares tours for distinguished City visitors by scheduling activities; prepares materials for and conducts talks and lectures on agency activities.
  • Provides information to the public by telephone, letter and in person concerning agency functions, operations, and programs.
  • Delivers concise, accurate and actionable accounts of meetings and discussions.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of public information and relations.
Knowledge of the preparation of promotional materials for release to the media (press, radio, or television).
Knowledge of the graphic materials and their use. Ability to speak and write effectively.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with various media, social, civic and community organizations, and the public.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requirements - A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, communications, journalism, English, or other related field of study, and one-two years of experience in performing public information or public relations work.
Equivalencies - Equivalent combination of education and experience.
