Position Details: As Needed Position Description:The Telecommunication Operator is responsible for answering all incoming telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner, providing routine information, and directing call to the appropriate parties.
Principle Accountabilities:
1. Channels all incoming calls within 5 rings; provide direct numbers as required. Connects inside callers with out-of-sate lines when appropriate.
2. Maintains established department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety standards.
3. Responds to emergency calls following established protocols.
4. Assists callers by using beepers, pagers, voice page as necessary, or other means.
5. Maintains a log recording the volume of beeper, long distance calls, and voice pages.
6. Updates attendant directory as necessary in order to maintain a complete and accurate listing. Making sure all daily information is updated before the end of shift.
7. Cleans position before leaving at the end of shift.
8. Attends meetings as required.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
High School or GED required.
Experience:
Switchboard experience required
Hospital switchboard experience preferred
Excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to answer telephone and research information
Good computer skills
Able to balance figures and compile statistics
Able to compose letters, coordinate meetings, and develop office procedures
