Summary/Objective:

Install and maintain low voltage systems for Fire, Security, Access control, Video, and other low voltage products and systems currently supported. This could include electronic door hardware, intercom, electronic key control, radio back up, telephone, internet, and cloud connectivity. Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes and meets the expected needs of the customer.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist other technicians with cable, conduit or other field devices to maintain, repair or replace security systems, alarm devices, or related equipment following blueprints of electrical layouts and building plans either remotely or on-site.
  • Mount and fasten control panels, card readers, door and window contacts, sensors, or video cameras and attached electrical, telephone and network wiring to connect components.
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff from execution of customer proposals through installation and on-going maintenance, in a way that continuously generates customer satisfaction.
  • Work with manufacturer’s technical support personnel.
  • Inspect installation sites and study work orders, building plans and installation manuals to determine material requirements and installation procedures.
  • Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes and standard practices.
  • Communicate with manager/supervisor with job status details, problems, potential issues and any other necessary information.

Education/Certification and Experience:

  • Must have at least 1 year in the low voltage industry; (low voltage 12 and 24).
  • Must have excellent troubleshooting skills to rapidly isolate causes and expedite solutions on equipment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite of software.
  • Possess a strong aptitude for and be skilled in the use of hand tools and commonly used industry materials and products.
  • Ability to run conduit/wire mold is essential.
  • Experience in installation and termination with Cat5e and Cat6 cables highly desired.
  • Experience with fire systems is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Possess current certification in OSHA 10 a plus. Training for certification will be provided upon hiring if needed.
  • Familiarity with any or the following products is highly desirable but not required. Must be willing to be trained on products and obtain certification as required:

Lenel, Bosch, Axis, Feenics, Identicard, Assa-Abloy, Verient, Airphone, Tele guard, Edwards systems, and Kidder.

Special Requirements:

Technical Systems Group, Inc. conducts business with government entities that require drug testing and a security background check with fingerprints. The person working in this position must pass this form of security clearance to work here.

Employee MUST have a valid driver’s license.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but will provide general direction to necessary personnel.

Work Environment:

Primarily this job will require work in the field servicing equipment at customer locations. Some locations will have extreme heat/cold/ humid conditions. There is the possibility of very loud noise levels, with fumes or airborne particles and there may be times which requires work to be completed in very small, confined spaces. Work may be required near moving mechanical parts or in high, precarious places. Risk of electrical shock is also a possibility. Some meetings will be held in the office.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, climb stairs/ladders, crouch and/or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities required to do this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to pull, carry, lift up to 100 pounds at a time.

Hours of Work:

Standard hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch. There is some flexibility of hours allowed with prior approval from manager.

Travel:

This position only requires travel to client locations within the greater Rochester and surrounding areas. Some occasional overnight travel may be required.

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
