About EduSail

EduSail grew out of a genuine love for helping students & a sense of helplessness as we tried to do so in the classroom. We realized that there were things we wanted to help students with that went beyond mandated school curricula & required additional resources that the schools we worked in just didn't have.

So, here we are. We are the metaphorical village dedicated to supporting students across all communities. Together, we know we can achieve it all.

Our Approach

We take a multi-pronged approach to college and career counseling. Our students receive individual counseling in addition to whole-group mentorship experiences. To accomplish this, we form "Crews" that serve our students' individual needs. Each Crew consists of:

  • a "Skipper" - a counselor who is an expert educational leader;
  • a "Navigator" - an experienced specialist in a specific field of interest;
  • a "Helmsman" - a college ambassador whose journey is aligned to our students' goals;
  • and a group of "Trimmers" - a cohort of like-minded peers who support each other in creating & achieving their goals.

Students meet monthly (one-on-one) with their Skipper + monthly with their Crew.

Role Overview

We are looking for a dynamic college and career counselor (aka a "Skipper") to join our team. Skippers are certified educators & counselors with proven records of student excellence. Skippers are highly educated, certified, & trained in mentoring students in the various areas they need support. Skippers provide students with personalized, individual care.

In addition to providing our students with mentorship that is immediately applicable, Skippers also ensure students are set up to succeed in future endeavors. Skippers are equipped to guide students through all postsecondary pathways, including securing admission to universities, community colleges, trade schools, the military, & the workforce.

Skippers have a maximum caseload of 80 students that they are responsible for mentoring. This role will begin as a part-time role while the caseload is built, & transition to full-time employment as more students are enrolled & assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate eagerly - Handle the intensity of a quickly growing organization, contributing to growth by jumping in to a high-performing, driven, & collaborative team.
  • Contribute wealth of knowledge - Help in developing rigorous curricula & resources that prepare students for all postsecondary opportunities.
  • Deliver strong - Mentor students inspirationally in one-on-one and class capacities.
  • Lead fiercely - Lead guest mentors ("Navigators" & "Helmsmen") in fulfilling the EduSail vision.
  • Make data-driven decisions - Adjust approaches by using qualitative and quantitative data to ensure student understanding & meet differentiated student needs.
  • Facilitate access - Participate in & help create opportunities for students in various areas of need.
  • Bridge the gap - Maintain strong lines of communication with families about student progress.
  • Grow continuously - Offer and receive constructive feedback from colleagues, aspiring to excellence.

Who You Are

  • A steadfast believer that all students can achieve excellence, and a fighter for social justice who believes fundamentally that equity in access to a high-quality education and a successful career should not depend on a child’s race, socioeconomic status, or zip code.
  • A growth-minded tinkerer who is constantly learning, improving, and hungry for feedback.
  • A gritty problem-solver who approaches challenges with smart solutions in mind.
  • An eternal optimist who supports and motivates your teammates by having their back.
  • A detail maven who plans backwards diligently to meet timelines and manage complex projects.
  • A data-driven analyst who reflects and takes swift action based on results.
  • A proactive communicator who reaches out to students, families, and teammates to communicate about both positive wins and setbacks or challenges.

The Fine Print

  • Education - Must have a bachelor's degree in education or related field. Master's or doctoral degree preferred.
  • Certification - Must hold or be eligible for a valid state teaching or counseling certificate/license in relevant state.
  • Prior experience teaching or counseling, experience teaching or working in a low-income community, & a demonstrated ability to raise achievement levels of traditionally underserved students are highly preferred.
  • Prior experience working in K-12 education in roles that relate to college counseling highly preferred.

The Perks

  • The salary range for this position is between $20 & $35 hourly (between $39,200 and $68,600 annually) based on experience & remote work location.
  • Part-time (hourly) employees (working fewer than 40 hours/week) are not eligible to receive additional benefits.
