Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Resident Advisor is responsible for:
  • Supervising/attending/ supporting ROOTS scholars, ages 17-19 years of age, including:
o Checking in/checking out
o Meal checks
o Study Hall checks and attendance
  • ROOTS program events/programming
  • Implement and uphold ROOTS Summer Bridge participant contract
  • Be present during stated work hours (three shifts: 8am-4pm; 4pm-12am; 12am-8am)
  • Attend weekly staff meeting, time Wednesdays 6pm-7pm
  • Create and manage weekly communication to parents and ROOTS program social media page
  • Provide first aid or medical referrals, if/when needed
  • Ensure and enforce ROOTS scholars’ safety
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and Chief Diversity Officer

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with ROOTS scholars program coordinators, coworkers, other university staff, and the general public.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities
  • Must have desire working with college-aged students
  • Must demonstrate patience, maturity, organizational skills
  • Must be at least 18
  • In case of emergencies, must be able to be easily woken in the night.
  • Must be able to attend mandatory in-person staff training at UNCW, June 24, 2023
  • Must pass a criminal background check and complete CPR/First Aid Certification before June 15, 2023.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience working with overnight youth camps and/or college students.
