Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Resident Advisor is responsible for:
- Supervising/attending/ supporting ROOTS scholars, ages 17-19 years of age, including:
o Checking in/checking out
o Meal checks
o Study Hall checks and attendance
- ROOTS program events/programming
- Implement and uphold ROOTS Summer Bridge participant contract
- Be present during stated work hours (three shifts: 8am-4pm; 4pm-12am; 12am-8am)
- Attend weekly staff meeting, time Wednesdays 6pm-7pm
- Create and manage weekly communication to parents and ROOTS program social media page
- Provide first aid or medical referrals, if/when needed
- Ensure and enforce ROOTS scholars’ safety
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and Chief Diversity Officer
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with ROOTS scholars program coordinators, coworkers, other university staff, and the general public.
- Must demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities
- Must have desire working with college-aged students
- Must demonstrate patience, maturity, organizational skills
- Must be at least 18
- In case of emergencies, must be able to be easily woken in the night.
- Must be able to attend mandatory in-person staff training at UNCW, June 24, 2023
- Must pass a criminal background check and complete CPR/First Aid Certification before June 15, 2023.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience working with overnight youth camps and/or college students.
