    SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Principal, the ELL Teacher plans, implements, and evaluates all aspects of the school programs for English Language Learners at the secondary level.

    VISION: The Nampa School District is seeking an extraordinary school leader for our ELL Co-Teacher position who is committed to every child’s success.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Prepare for assigned classes.
    • Design lessons with an appropriate level of difficulty that provide content in a logical and sequential manner.
    • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the classroom and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
    • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
    • Identify pupil needs and provide instruction appropriate to those needs.
    • Analyze and interpret student data to develop and modify instructional activities.
    • Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
    • Implement the Idaho Core Standards, as well as the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives, in lesson plans, classroom instruction, unit planning, and assessments.
    • Devise written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinking as well as the reproduction of facts, and use them to evaluate student progress on a regular basis.
    • Prepare students academically for district, state, and federal testing.
    • Display command of the subject matter.
    • Budget class time effectively.
    • Encourage students to strive to meet their highest potential.
    • Establish and communicate classroom rules and encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
    • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
    • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
    • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
    • Attend IEP meetings and collaborate with special education teachers as needed.
    • Keep immediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise.
    • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, curriculum, objectives, and methods.
    • Provide needed and requested information on a timely basis.
    • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules.
    • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.
    • Input data in a timely fashion.
    • Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications.
    • Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education.
    • Seek assistance should emergencies arise.
    • Represent the school district in a positive manner.
    • Know and follow school district policy and chain of command.
    • In collaboration with the ELL Coordinator, oversee all required ELL state and/or federal testing.
    • Monitor state and federal communications regarding ELL programs and requirements, and ensures that all stakeholder groups are informed.
    • Ensure building level program delivery and quality by monitoring student outcomes, monitoring building level compliance with state and federal policy regarding ELL programs and services, and monitoring the implementation at the building level.
    • Coordinate the identification, assessment, and placement of limited English proficiency students.
    • At the direction of the Director of Compensatory Services, complete all state, federal and district reports relating to students identified as ELL.
    • Develop and ensure implementation of K-5 ELL services to qualified children.
    • Manage translation and interpreting services for non-English speaking students and families, except as related to Special Education.
    • Keep current in best practice research through targeted professional reading, membership in professional organizations, and through taking advantage of training opportunities as budget allows, for the purpose of gathering and conveying this information.

    EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE:
    • Idaho Teacher Certification in Secondary Education with an endorsement in ELL.
    • Highly Qualified Communications Teacher per the standards set forth by the Nampa School District.
    • Bachelor degree required in area of major study.
    • Successful teaching experience, including successful teaching of students with limited English proficiency.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to conduct basic math functions and manipulate formulas in spreadsheets as needed.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    Respond to verbal and physical aggression and abuse by students due to their mental health disorders and trauma histories.
