Job description

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a 50% - 100% Clinical Technician I to work for the Digestive Health Procedure Suite.

Basic Function and Responsibility:

  • Under direct supervision assists in patient care and the preparation of patients, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment for special procedures and tests.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities – Clinical Practice:

  • Assists with patient admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Completes baseline admission data on patient arrival.
  • Observes patient for changes in physical condition.
  • Demonstrates competency in the performance of technical skills, providing appropriate care with regard to patient's condition and age.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients and follows standard precautions.
  • Complies with unit, departmental, and hospital policies/standards.
  • Participates in unit-based Quality Management programs. Implements emergency care procedure in actual and practice situations.
  • Documents information obtained during tests/procedures.
  • Works as a team member and supports cohesiveness of unit personnel.
  • Performs special duties as identified in unit or divisional policy under direction of the charge nurse.
  • Preserves patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Accepts constructive criticism.
  • Maintains required skill in C.P.R. Complies with department/division personnel policies.
  • Adheres to dress code.
  • Follows appropriate organizational channels.
  • Participates in unit and division staff meetings and in-services.
  • Continues to develop knowledge Demonstrates initiative in contributing to workload of unit.
  • Demonstrates responsibility in the care and utilization of complex equipment.
  • Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.

Percent of time: 50% - 100% | 20 to 40 hours per week.

Location: Main Campus (JCP)

Hours: M-F; Variable hours between 7:30AM - 6PM. Self scheduling is practiced.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • One year of health care experience involving direct patient care.
