Job description

Are you one of those people who loves to make people’s day? Do you have a passion for animals and believe in the incredible power of the human-animal bond? Are you detailed, organized and able to multi-task? Do you consider yourself a “people whisperer”? Are you the person who always keeps calm and carries on?

If so, we need you!

Here for animals since 1868, the SF SPCA is one of San Francisco’s most enduring and respected nonprofit organizations. We offer care and protection to animals in need, and we believe all cats and dogs (and the people who love them) deserve access to high-quality veterinary care.

As a leader in animal care and welfare, the SF SPCA is looking to welcome a Client Experience Specialist (CES) who can be the face of the organization, pointing our clients in the right direction and remaining calm under the stress of competing demands.

As a Client Experience Specialist, you will:

  • Be skilled at greeting clients and creating an empathetic experience for them, while answering questions about their pet’s care.
  • Have the opportunity to meet an array of clientele and their fur babies while ensuring they are left with a memorable impression of our staff and services.
  • Use time management and an eye for detail to book appointments and schedule surgeries.
  • Set clear expectations and help clients navigate our hospital facility.
  • Facilitate communication between clients and the medical care staff while giving them a confident, reassuring, knowledgeable resource to make what can sometimes be a stressful experience, more manageable.

The specific bits that will help your candidacy stand out:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of college education or 2 years of related experience preferred.
  • Veterinary Hospital experience will be an advantage.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin and/or Cantonese is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to resolve conflict and de-escalate agitated clients.
  • Compassionate and culturally competent approach to clients of varying backgrounds and abilities.
  • Independent, self-starter with superior organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize within a fast-paced environment and maintain composure.
  • Skill in operating various software programs such as ImporMed Infinity, MS Office, Excel and Word.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.

Compensation + Benefits:

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $22 - $27/hour. Starting pay will depend on the length and breadth of experience. Our exceptional benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance, a tax-deferred retirement plan + matching funds, PTO, holiday pay, employee discounts. Other perks include easy access from the freeway, a 10-minute walk from the 16th street BART station, and a free on-site employee parking lot.

Mission Hospital at the SF SPCA is a large, bustling hospital with as many as 9 or 10 doctors working on any given day. If you are someone who loves to be in the middle of it all keeping the trains on the track then this is the experience for you!

The San Francisco SPCA welcomes everyone! We know diversity drives innovation and brings new perspectives. We consider our differences valuable assets that help us continually strive to be better at what we do.

If you are ready to use your experience to grow with a well-established, mission-oriented organization and feed your soul in the process, we want to hear from you!
