ABOUT HUMANKIND

HK provides shelter, affordable housing, basic needs, and supportive services to those experiencing homelessness or poverty in Sedgwick County. Recognizing the inherent value of each person, we serve the most vulnerable with compassion and kindness and, in doing so, strengthen the entire community.

Shelters: HK operates one year-round homeless shelter, The Inn, and two Emergency Winter Shelters (one each for men and women). Each year, more than 1,400 men, women, and children are provided with a warm and safe place to sleep.

Affordable housing: HK offers affordable and safe housing to help low-income or formerly homeless individuals and families find stability and self-sufficiency. HK Case Managers connect residents with community resources and teach life skills classes.

Operation Holiday: Each year since 1960, HK brings the community together to run Wichita’s largest holiday assistance program, Operation Holiday. More than providing basic needs and toys, Operation Holiday helps our region’s most vulnerable residents get through the year’s coldest (and most expensive) months—and shows them that their community cares.
