Clerk (Student Service Representative/SSR)

Part Time

12 months per year; 10-15 hrs/week

Salary: $17.32/hr

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Enrollment Management Services (CEMS), the Clerk (Student Service Representative (SSR)) will provide front line customer service and administrative support in areas of Admissions, Advising, Financial aid and other areas deemed appropriate to best serve students at one of our campus locations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assists current and prospective students by providing information on the enrollment, admissions and financial aid application process.

  • Responds to questions and inquiries in person, by telephone, or via email being the first point of contact.
  • Provides clerical support scheduling appointments for services with advisors, counselors, and other staff in the Enrollment and Success Center.
  • Performs various duties for the financial aid office including receipt and classification of paperwork and administrative support for federal and state aid programs.
  • Monitors and screens student records for status information regarding Admissions status.
  • Enters data, maintains, and updates student information database.
  • Maintains bulletin boards, brochure racks, and other information areas with transfer guides, career information, enrollment literature, and assessment study guides.
  • Assists students with any enrollment process information that is required.
  • Provides a one-stop help to students with regards to admissions, enrollment, academic advising, and financial aid. Processes a variety of student applications used for such processes as enrollment, advising, and financial aid.
  • Maintains all relevant record keeping and tracking.
  • Refer students to a variety of resources, i.e. courses, programs, career options, degree plan initiatives, career services and transfer options.
  • Responsible for various administrative and clerical functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and be flexible to contribute to the success of the community campus as needed.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer technology and software applications in order to conduct various enrollment processes.
  • Ability to deal extensively and effectively with a wide variety of individuals requiring excellent interpersonal skills, listening skills, and communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with high volume of traffic and phone calls with a strong emphasis on customer service skills providing a welcoming environment as the first point of contact in the Enrollment and Success Center.
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customer service.

Offers of employment are contingent upon Board of Trustee approval. Employment with SUNY Ulster is not complete or official until applicants meet all pre-employment requirements, and the Board of Trustees has approved. All positions are contingent upon adequate funding.
