Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager

Primoris Industrial and Civil is currently searching for an experience Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager in our Hastings, Nebraska location.

Job Description Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager:

Under the direction of the Project Manager, applicant will provide overall on-site construction and technical management on large industrial project sites.

General Requirements Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager:

  • Practice safety rules.

  • Report to and assist immediate supervisor.
  • Perform quality work as determined by project specifications.
  • Must work well as part of a team.

Functional Requirements Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager:

  • The Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager will coordinate with Superintendents and Foremen to see that project plans and specifications are being followed and that the most cost-effective methods are employed.
  • Bring deficiencies of plans to attention of inspector and Project Manager.
  • Assist with resolution of problems with inspectors.
  • Measure all work put in place and monitor the accumulation and documentation of quantities.
  • Report these to the Project Management Team for inclusion on monthly estimate and for reporting to the accounting system.
  • Maintain an accurate daily record of job activities, quantities performed, and instructions for the owner and accidents.
  • Provide technical assistance with project scheduling, prepare 3-week look ahead schedule.
  • Coordinate delivery of materials to insure no delays in job progress.
  • Obtain local state and federal permits related to the construction activities.
  • Coordinate with survey crews to assure layout is done prior to work activities.
  • Supervise and direct subcontractors and major suppliers.
  • Approve timesheets for accuracy and proper allocation.
  • Analyze potential job hazards and prepare plan to eliminate risks.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by supervisor.

Qualification Standards Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager:

  • Four-year civil engineering or construction management degree, or equivalent combination of training and experience, plus a minimum of two years of construction engineering and/or surveying experience.
  • Working knowledge of surveying techniques and equipment, assigned discipline design, and overall engineering standards is necessary.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, and interface and communicate with others is essential.
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.

  • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or others in the workplace.
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.).
  • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.).

Physical Requirements Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager:

  • Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
  • Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company.
  • Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.).
  • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
  • Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.

Dimensions / Comments:

  • This Civil Field Engineer / Assistant Project Manager position is generally for someone already capable in day-to-day field engineering requirements and eager to learn. To take on managerial duties with the ultimate foal of transitioning to the Project Management Team.

Work Environment:

  • Location: industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shop
  • Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: Uneven ground level

Obstructed pathways Work performed at low and/or high elevations. Work performed in confined areas.

  • Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: Predominately outdoor climate

May be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather. Excessive humidity, rain, etc. Various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc. Potential exposure to chemical substances
