Purpose of Job

The Childcare Educator supports the coordinator by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. Educators must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. The person must be able to assist in implementing a quality educational program and develop positive relationships with the children and their parents. The Daycare Educator observes and documents children's interests and progress and relays that information to parents and staff. They are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the coordinator.

This position reports to the Coordinator of First Flight Academy.



Essential Functions


  • Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
  • Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
  • Help ensure a smooth, daily transition from home to the childcare center.
  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain personal and professional development plans to ensure continuous quality improvement.

  • Participate in quality professional development.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning for staff, students, and parents.
  • Complete all other duties the Director of Schools or Daycare/PreK Coordinator assigns.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job
Functions


  • High School Diploma or GED..
  • Child Development Associate (CDA), CDA in progress, or 6 hours of Early Childhood Education credit.
  • TECTA Certification.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of childcare experience.
  • Applicable work experience and education experience may be substituted for prerequisites.

ATTENDANCE: A regular and dependable level of attendance is an essential function for this position.
