JOB OPENING: Direct Care Staff

Greenacre Homes & School supports 6 to 19-year-old boys in learning life skills, building healthy relationships, and positive community engagement. We provide residential care and educational services for boys and young men who have been removed from homes due to a variety of reasons ranging from abuse and neglect to behavioral issues and educational struggle. We are looking for motivated people who want to help make positive changes in the lives of our youth. Grow your skills with our boys who love to learn from the connections they make with our dedicated staff. Must have patience and a desire to work with children.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Implements individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clinical and school teams.
  • Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and communicates professionally with all treatment team members and outside stakeholders.
  • Ensures that the physical needs of the residents are met and passes and documents the use of medications.
  • Identifies, reports, and documents the youth's needs, behavior, and progress.
  • Engages youth in all aspects of daily living, builds professional and mutually respectful relationships with the youth while modeling positive adult behavior and citizenship.
  • Able to implement effective interventions and excellent crisis management skills

Direct Care Staff work weekday afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends in a home-like environment. This is not a sedentary job: be prepared to play, bike, swim, hike, and get outdoors on a daily basis. You will work with a team to care for up to 6 boys, helping them with homework, engaging them with sports and exercise, planning outings to stores and community events, and teaching them the life skills needed to navigate the world. On-site training and supervision are provided by experienced staff and social workers.

COMPENSATION:

Up to $26.00/hr depending on experience and education with potential for additional paid shift differentials. All staff who perform well are eligible for promotion and raises. We promote from within!

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 21 years of age (per government mandate)
Must have valid CA driver's license and clean DMV record
Must complete a background check, pre-employment physical, and a tuberculosis test (upon hire)
Must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree.
  • A valid Child Development Teaching Permit.
  • Completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • A valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • A valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
  • Previously been employed as a full-time staff or served as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year.
  • Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
