About Sean’s Legacy:

Sean’s Legacy is a public health nonprofit redefining primary prevention of suicide through education, support, and mentorship. Founded in 2019, ten years following the passing of Sean Myers, Sean’s Legacy honors a vivacious dancer and honors student who died by suicide at age 13. To preserve his legacy, we are working to increase LGBTQIA+ representation and identity education as a primary prevention method to reduce suicide and provide support to the LGBTQIA+ population. In the future, it is our hope to launch a program offering free mental healthcare services to underserved youth and young adults.

We are taking LGBTQIA+ representation a step further with our professional mentorship program in development. Through our program, mentors and mentees will share mutual interests, industries, gender identities, and/or sexualities. Young professionals who identify as LGBTQIA+ aged 18-25 years will be matched with LGBTQIA+ mentors based on their commonalities. Conversely, LGBTQIA+ adults established in their careers have the opportunity to volunteer as a mentor to be the role model they needed when they were younger. Our work champions transparency and safety for both parties throughout the design process. We are roughly 18 months from program launch and need to generate funds to support the maintenance of the online platform.

About the role:

Sean’s Legacy is seeking our inaugural Chairperson of the Board to assist our head of the executive board search committee in developing an inaugural board to serve our organization. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who is supportive of the mission of Sean’s Legacy and who has an affinity to serve LGBTQIA+ youth and young adults.

As a partner to the Managing Director and other board members, the Board Chair will provide leadership to Sean’s Legacy (SL), support and sustain our workstreams, provide governance leadership and strategic fundraising support.
