The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove(WVHUG) is recruiting for multiple full-time Nursing Assistant 3 positions, to administer scheduled and as needed medications. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is in Racine County, a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

Sign-On Bonus of $2000 for eligible new hires who agree to remain in the position for one year. The first $1000 will be paid in the employee's first paycheck and the second $1000 will be paid when the employee attains permanent status.

Medication Pass Nursing Assistants at our facility are responsible for administering medication to residents. Additional responsibilities include performing direct nursing care; assisting nurses with medical and related nursing treatments; and completing appropriate medical documentation.

Salary Information

Starting wage is $20.37 per hour, plus an attractive employee benefits package. Additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Sign-on bonus of $2000 for eligible new hires.

A $5.00 per hour temporary add-on will be paid for all hours worked in a Nursing Assistant 3 shift at the Veterans Home through June 17, 2023.

This position is in pay schedule-range 06-12. For current State employees, pay on hire will be set following the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details

Three positions are on AM shift (6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and three positions are on PM shift (2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.). All positions work designated weekdays with an every-other weekend rotation.

Job duties require the ability to assist in patient mobility efforts, stand and/or walk up to 75% of eight-hour day to provide assessments, kneel, stoop, make visual observations, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment, and wear protective clothing. Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Employees at this healthcare facility are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by date of hire. Reasonable accommodations for exemptions to this requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable law.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Applicants must have certification or be eligible for certification as a Wisconsin Nurse Aide and be eligible to work in a federally certified nursing home as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

In addition to confirming their Nurse Aide certification, minimally qualified applicants will need to provide proof of their successful completion of a Department of Health Services-approved Medication Aide program with the application.

Additional minimum requirements that will be verified and evaluated at a later stage in the selection process are:

  • Records showing 100 hours per year worked as a Medication Aide* in the previous three (3) years; and
  • Records showing completion of four (4) hours per year of pharmacy-related continuing education/in-service training* in the previous three (3) years; and
  • Experience performing basic nursing cares; and
  • Experience communicating in a team environment; and
  • Experience using computer systems and applications; and
  • Availability to work varying hours/shifts and overtime

*If Medication Aide program was completed fewer than 3 years ago, the number of years of required records is reduced. If your Nurse Aide certification and Medication Aide training are verified and you are qualified for the next step of the hiring process, you will be required to provide copies of the listed records before being referred for an interview.

Well qualified applicants will also have the following experience which will be evaluated at a later stage in the selection process:

  • Providing advanced nursing cares; and/or
  • Administering PRN (as needed) medications; and/or
  • In a long-term care setting or training in a long-term care setting
