Job description

Under the direction of the President, the Center Director (CD) is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the school and charged with carrying out the approved program in accordance with KCAA policies. Other duties include, but are not limited to operating the school's program within budget, ensures all NAEYC accreditation standards are maintained, maintains necessary records and submits required reports in a timely manner, and helps staff plan curriculum to meet the specific needs of children and the community.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervision of Teaching, Support, and Custodial Staff
  • Familiar with and follows all policies, procedures, and regulations
  • School's Admissions and Enrollment
  • Parent Relations and Communications
  • Health Care of Children
  • Recordkeeping
  • Staffing
  • Supervision of Trainees and Volunteers
  • Performance Evaluations of staff

Education/Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with administration experience; or a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Education or related fields from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of two (2) years full-time experience as a classroom teacher; or a combination of training and experience substantially equivalent

Technical Skills Required:

  • Supervisory or teacher/parent training and general business practices.
  • Familiarity with budget and financial projection processes.
  • Must be computer literate in data/word processing and spreadsheets preferably with experience in MS Office; familiarity with Gmail is beneficial.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a safe and responsible driving record.
  • Must successfully pass DHS Criminal History Check and all subsequent annual checks, as required.

  • Behaves as a team-minded player who is able to serve as a role model exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness and respect.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and has strong organizational skills
  • Displays sincere affection for and interest in the development of young children by demonstrating enthusiasm in working with children and their parents by serving as a positive example to children, their family members, and school faculty and staff in speech, mannerism and conduct.
  • Demonstrates willingness to take directions and is flexible in following through.
  • Demonstrates the ability to independently problem-solve basic interpersonal conflicts young children experience.
  • Is reliable, mentally alert, responsible in taking initiative, and interacts positively, constructively and maturely with adults.
  • Maintains at all times a professional appearance and posture, attitude and loyalty to KCAA and the school.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry 30 pounds without assistance
  • Move with agility over and under children and objects; to climb, as needed, up to heights no higher than 6 feet off the ground; to get down to child's level by either kneeling, sitting, crouching or stooping.
  • Is able to be exposed to sunlight over a period of time not exceeding two hours.
  • Tolerate constant noises made by children such as crying, screaming, yelling, and laughing.
  • Work on several projects and tasks at the same time

Candidates must live on island. Relocation is not provided.
