We are looking for a woodworking teacher /carpentry instructor for TeeterPal 2023 summer outdoor camp.

Programs in 10+ locations in the Bay Area for more than 3 years in a row and received tons of positive feedback. Going to nature is the educational philosophy and purpose of TeeterPal. We hope that children can learn about nature, love nature, protect wildlife, and grow in nature through courses and activities in our camp.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Woodworking Teacher is responsible for the woodworking education of students in age 5-15.
Woodworking is an integral part of the Teeterpal summer camp program and the Woodworking
Teacher is responsible for teaching several sessions to lead students complete woodworking projects from beginning to end, such as building a treehouse. In woodworking, the will is put to task as arms are strengthened and hands become skilled. In completing a woodworking project, students gain the experience that they can make things happen and that they have the power to be a creative and transformative force. Throughout all the classes, students are taught the safe and proper use and care of tools, as well as an appreciation for the gifts of the forest. Social skills are also exercised when students assist each other, tend to the occasional cut finger, or cooperate in group projects. Woodworking provides an opportunity for the students to learn to direct their incredible energy and creativity.

JOB DUTY:
Our camps include groups of 5-25 kids in 5-15 years old every week and guide them through from familiar materials , tools to building a treehouse, finishing the project. This position is responsible for providing professional knowledge of wood working, designing course curriculums, educating kids on environmental-related matters. Activities will be at an off-site ranch in Gilroy. Just as important, this job is about teaching students the philosophy of engineering and teamwork learning as well as thriving in the great outdoors.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Planning, leading and implementing camp programs for children aged from 5 to 12 years old.
● Lead day event at various with a group of up to 15 campers per group. The teaching assistant will be onsite.
● Providing professional knowledge and educating campers on wood science
● Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants

● Organize and participate in the camp program, ranging from outdoor sports to camp games and rituals

● Be a member of a dynamic staff team and take an active role in the evaluation of campers, programs, and staff

● Be able to demonstrate your expertise in the field and gain credibility as a professional
● First Aid and CPR certified preferred
● All staff must complete an annual Live Scan fingerprinting process to meet our background check requirements.
● Staff must be at least 18 years old or have a valid worker’s permit.

Program times are typically between 9am-4:30 pm Monday through Friday, total 10 weeks in the entire program. Staff will be expected to work a minimum of 8 weeks.

● Bachelor's degree in carpentry, architecture, engineering, elated field house designed, or primitive & survival wilderness skills, and multi-sports

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour
