Summer Camp begins 6/12/2023 and ends 8/11/2023.

Responsible for those programs assigned to them as well as supervising a group of approximately ten (10) children. Reports to the Youth & Teen Programs Director.

Summer Camp activities at the City of Sunny Isles Beach may include, but are not limited to, athletic and sports-related events, arts and crafts, music, life skills and field trips.

Position incumbent supports City sponsored programs; provides supervision with related activities, and must maintain effective working relationships with teammates, program participants, children and/or parents, as necessary.

Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties

  • Prepare lesson planning for each day of the program.
  • Prepare the program area for the different activities, ensuring safety and security.
  • Instruct (or assist) children in the various activities providing guidance and coaching as necessary.
  • Track the campers' attendance.
  • Administer first aid, if necessary.
  • Ensure supervisor is updated orally, or in writing, on all activities and is kept informed of any related issues.
  • If required, perform facility maintenance, i.e. garbage disposal or cleaning up.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of program or recreational activity supplies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work well with children.
  • Ability to be friendly and courteous at all times when working with the children and staff.
  • Ability to be creative with activities for the children.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to assistants.
  • Ability to take direction from supervisory staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish effective working relationship with children, adults and coworkers.
  • Ability to work prolong hours outdoors.
  • Ability to stand or be physically active for prolong hours.

Minimum Requirements


Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma required. Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Education, Recreation or Physical Education preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience working with children preferably in a summer camp environment; or any acceptable combination of education and experience.



License or Certification:

  • CPR and First Aid certification is required and must be obtained before 6/1/2023 and remain valid through 8/11/2023.
  • Fingerprints and VECHS background check required.
  • Florida Driver's License may be required.
  • 40 hour Child Care Certification Preferred


Additional Information:

  • It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement.
  • Must be available to work at least 90% of the camp duration (6/12/2023 - 8/11/2023).
  • Must also attend mandatory staff meeting orientation on 5/22/2023 - 5/26/2023, parent orientation on 6/1/2023, and may be required to assist a week prior to start of camp, and week after camp ends. Dates subject to change.
