Job Description

Responsible for negotiating the purchase of quality produce and perishable products at competitive prices and maintaining adequate inventories to meet customer demand. Functions as a team member within the department and cross-functions, as required, and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Attain targeted profit margins as determined by the company's business goals. Maintain product costing and pricing and ensure accurate purchase orders.

Negotiate prices and quantities ordered based upon customer orders, economic order point (volume discount vs. efficient utilization of warehousing space), promotion of product, and overall market conditions.

Effectively implement buying/purchasing strategies such that product is purchased in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.

Manage perishable inventory levels to the designated goal level.

Effectively manage the disposition of perishable items ensuring quality products to customers.

Consult with vendors regarding current orders and new products. Initiate orders, schedule deliveries and process related paperwork and documentation. Provide product and pricing information to sales staff. Investigate product quality complaints.

Complete special projects and promotion of products, as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience

Required Experience:

1 - 2 Years experience purchasing perishable items

Purchasing or related area

Thorough understanding of purchasing concepts.

Possess a high degree of diplomacy, tact, tenacity and persistence to deal effectively with suppliers.

Must be organized and have strong communication and negotiation skills.

Basic mathematical skills.

Extensive product knowledge, and sources of supply.

Proficient with various Desktop software (e.g., Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor Degree: Business, supply chain or related area

Preferred Experience:

2 - 4 Years

Purchasing or related area within foodservice industry

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Associates or Bachelor Degree in Business or related field
