As a member of the IT Team, the Business Systems Consultant is responsible for facilitation in the areas of project organization and execution, and facilitates the design, vendor evaluation, development, implementation, and management of multiple projects. This position has responsibilities in 5 key areas, including: Business Knowledge, Scope Definition, Systems Requirements Definition, Development, User Administration and Support, Quality Assurance, and Project Leadership.

Position responsibilities:

  • Leads small to medium projects and provides subject-matter expertise on larger projects to ensure applications meet user requirements. Project activities include gathering information from users; developing technical requirements, architecture, and design deliverables; and continuously working with users to negotiate technical solutions against business requirements.
  • Assists and, where appropriate, drives the problem definition through interviewing customers, end users, and influential stakeholders to better understand key business problems and opportunities.
  • Provides solutions spanning multiple technology areas, including network, application, database, middleware, and security.
  • Guides and assists with application development to meet business requirements by analyzing business needs and supporting coding, testing, debugging and documenting programs and systems in alignment with department standards and practices.
  • Performs routine audits of systems and software to ensure highest level of performance and capabilities. Identifies problems and recommends solutions.
  • Partners with business and IT teams to determine estimates on resources and timing to meet business needs and communicates to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Develops sizing estimates for project requests and determines feasibility of implementing new systems or modifying existing systems including communication plans and training plans.

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; at least 10 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Visual Basic, MS SharePoint and data standards & normalization best practice techniques and tools.
  • IT project management skills: defining objectives, creating timelines, scheduling, and planning project resources, documenting processes, monitoring, and evaluating project status.
  • Ability to use software tools for data profiling, data cleansing, data analysis, and data modeling.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including ability to lead meetings, provide clear information and directions, and communicate effectively to both business and technical teams.
  • Ability to coordinate users & technical staff across multiple departments/locations as well as coordination of 3rd party project responsibilities.
  • Ability to diagnose and solve problems. Uses logic to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; probes all different sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is excellent at analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the face value answers.
