Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost & Director, the Business Manager is responsible for all HR and fiscal activities for University Scholarships & Financial Aid (USFA). The Business Manager is responsible for business functions including bookkeeping, monthly financial reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, file maintenance, entering orders into HokieMart, ensuring compliance with all VT business practice policies and procedures, monitoring budgets for university funds, proactively identify and resolve problems, provide reports as needed, and advise on allowable use of funds. The Business Manager also oversees human resources activities including onboarding new employees, completing separation of employees, monitoring compliance for wage employees including emergency hires, and tracking training requirements such as GLBA, COOP, and EAP. This position also assists in the reconciliation of the Federal Work Study program and provides support to the Director.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field with the equivalent level of training. Experience in accounting, financial management or financial analysis; experience in fund reconciliation, budget execution and financial reporting; working knowledge of large database systems; Demonstrated proficiency with current office computer software such as Word and Excel. Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles; highly motivated with ability to work independently; excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills; detail oriented, careful, responsible, and trustworthy.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Banner, HokieMart, Chrome River, or other similar systems. Familiarity with university and state policies, such as those related to business practices, purchasing, and travel.

Commensurate with experience up to a salary budget max of $59,650.
