BUILDING INSPECTOR I, II, OR III

Latah County has an exciting job opportunity for a Building Inspector/Plans Examiner to work as

part of the Planning, Building & GIS Department team.

The building inspector/plans examiner performs plan reviews and inspections to determine

compliance with applicable codes, enforces applicable county ordinances, conducts code research,

completes paperwork and database entries, and works with builders and the public.

The position requires range of skills necessary to perform in a rural jurisdiction. The successful

candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of the various principles and practices of

building inspection, building construction and building design, including thorough knowledge of

building, property maintenance, mechanical and fuel gas codes, math as applicable to building,

and building codes. Candidates must be proficient with the use of computers for research,

database management and use, document preparation, plan review/building calculation software,

and inspection documentation. Candidates must possess excellent customer service, public

relations skills, and tact. All applicants must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Building Inspector I requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 1 year related experience, 6

months customer service experience, and ICC certifications in Residential Building and

Mechanical Inspector within 3 months of hire.

Building Inspector II requires an associate’s degree (or equivalent knowledge in building

inspection and construction), one year experience in building inspection or related field, 6

months experience in customer service, and ICC certifications in Residential Building,

Residential Mechanical and Residential Plans Examiner.

Building Inspector III requires a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent knowledge in building

inspection and construction), two years’ experience in building inspection or related field, and

ICC certifications in Residential and Commercial Building, Mechanical, and Plans Examiner.

This is a full time position. The starting salary ranges are: Building Inspector I $45,432 to

$60,096 DOE, Building Inspector II $51,984 to $66,156 DOE, Building Inspector III $56,628 to

$72,132 DOE. This position has a full benefits package.
