Position Summary:
The Broadcast Video Engineer at Gateway Studios & Production Services assists the Director of Video in the management and execution of the video department’s daily operations. The Broadcast Video Engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all broadcast and electronic equipment and ensures that all equipment is up to date with the latest software systems, and that the equipment operates up to the required safety standards. The Broadcast Video Engineer also assists in directing and instructing Video Technicians, conducting trainings, and participating in the management of projects pertaining to the video department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Major Responsibilities:
1. Broadcasting Equipment:
  • Set up, configure, operate, and maintain a wide variety of electronic equipment involved in broadcasting production, including but not limited to, HD Video, UHD Video, audio, and communication equipment.
  • Troubleshoot broadcasting equipment.
  • Communicate with and report to the office and manufacturer of equipment to solve and problems with equipment.
  • Assist in keeping equipment updated with the manufacturer’s latest software releases.
  • Maintain technical equipment and systems to the required safety and technical standards with minimum disruption to operational activities.
2. Team Management:
  • Assist the Director of Video to ensure that the daily operations of the video department run smoothly, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Direct, instruct, and manage Video Technicians and system integrators on projects.
  • Conduct trainings for Video Technicians and share knowledge with team members about broadcast equipment and technologies.
3. Project Work and Management:
  • Undertake project work from site survey to deliver in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participate in technical and production meetings to plan, organize, and schedule work assignments in coordination with interdisciplinary teams in the office and at event locations.
  • Draft technical reports.
  • Read and design engineering workflow.
  • Prepare technical documents for the preparation of projects and amend them as necessary throughout the life of the project.
4. Teamwork and Communication:
  • Communicate with the Director of Video and other colleagues as needed throughout projects to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Video and other colleagues on an on-going basis to ensure projects are carried out in a timely and effective manner.
5. Safety:
  • Ensure workplace safety and efficiency.
  • Follow proper safety protocol at all times.
  • Wear proper PPE at all times, based on the scope of work.
6. Attendance:
  • Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.
7. Any and all other duties:
  • To be determined by supervisor on a permanent or project basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
  • Experience with IP Technology is preferred.
  • Experience with video systems design and build.
  • Experience with broadcast trucks preferred.
  • Experience with live events (concerts, sports and corporate events).
  • Experience with 4K UHD preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficient understanding of outside broadcast workflows.
  • Ability to work under time restraints.
  • Well-organized and ability to prioritize.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Ability to work closely with colleagues for long periods of time.
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work at a consistent pace throughout the shift.
  • Due to the complexity and weight of the equipment, adequate stamina and physical strength is necessary to perform duties of job.
  • Work with power cables and power distribution in common live event environments.
  • Work under any prevailing terrain and weather conditions and be appropriately dressed to do so, regardless of cold, heat, humidity, or wet weather conditions.
Strength:
  • Frequent manual lifting, up to 50 lbs., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift).
  • Frequent pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift).
Manual Dexterity:
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to perform activities required under essential functions.
  • Frequent light grasping and fine motor tasks (65-85% of shift).
Coordination:
  • Ability to perform gross body coordination and hand-eye coordination tasks without instability.
  • Work on a variety of uneven surfaces installing power cables and lights.
Mobility:
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, squat, lift, crawl, twist and move frequently during working hours.
  • Frequent standing (65-85%).
  • Occasional stair climbing and descending (30% of shift).
Visual:
  • Must be able to see or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to assure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met.
Hearing:
  • Must be able to hear or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to assure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met.
Speech:
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
