Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.

Bright Beginnings is a psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) day program that follows components of a clubhouse model offering each individual a sense of importance, ownership and empowerment through his or her contributions in keeping their clubhouse alive and operating. The program provides an environment of encouragement and support where individuals can build self-esteem and self-confidence in a normalized setting. We will maximize opportunities for individual empowerment, independent decision making, and individual input into treatment goals and program involvement. Our services will increase opportunities and skill levels for successful community reintegration in the least restrictive setting and focus on an individuals strengths and abilities, maximizing skills and improving overall functioning level.

Peer Recovery Specialist I provides peer support; serves as a consumer advocate; carries out support functions. The Peer Recovery Specialist may assist individuals with basic physical, financial, social, personal, and recovery needs. Services carried out by the Peer Recovery Specialist I include monitoring, advocacy, daily living support, and similar functions.

Requirements: Must be a person who has experienced a mental health and/or substance use condition and who has a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery to include making progress in learning about and managing his or her condition and in developing a life outside of, or in addition to, this condition. Must complete the DBHDS 72 hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within 6 months of hire.

Valid Driver's License.

As a condition of employment with Hampton Newport News CSB, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated for COVID 19 or fit within an exemption under the law. Accordingly if selected, employment is conditioned on providing proof of vaccination or having an approved exemption prior to starting employment.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
