Job Description
The Bridges Division of Public Works is seeking a motivated and reliable individual to operate bridges and accommodate water traffic. This position will be responsible for monitoring waterway and roadway traffic, listening for signals, operating bridge equipment, preparing paperwork, and cleaning and maintaining equipment. Requires the ability to walk up to 900’ on an inclined walkway and up to 60’ vertically up a stair tower, ability to operate control panels in a set sequence, and ability to hand crank traffic gate arms in the event of a malfunction.


Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of one month of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : None required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-terms department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
