Job Summary and Qualifications

As a BMT/Oncology Operations Pharmacist, you will support the BMT/Oncology Department, with primary duties including policy/protocol development, chemotherapy/biotherapy order entry, inventory & formulary management, organization of operations surrounding chemotherapy/biotherapy, and coordination of research study (drug production, delivery, documentation).

  • You will provide pharmaceutical care to BMT/Oncology patients
  • You will evaluate orders for appropriateness and accuracy, and consult/clarify with Oncology/BMT team as needed
  • You will coordinate with Oncology/BMT team to provide exceptional care to patients
  • You will work with Chemotherapy Technician to ensure accurate, timely production
  • You will work with Pharmacy Inventory Technician to maintain adequate stock
  • You will work with Research Coordinator and/or Nurses to complete required documentation, production, delivery of research medications
  • You will promote the use of the formulary by converting non-formulary orders to formulary when possible, but coordinate procurement of non-formulary drugs when necessary. As appropriate, submit to P&T for formulary consideration
  • You will perform order entry/order verification for assigned areas.
  • You will resolve and/or trouble shoot drug supply issues
  • You will anticipate changes in drug therapy and report the potential impact it will represent to the overall hospital and drug budget
  • You will precept Pharm D students in BMT/Oncology rotations
  • You will precept and mentor pharmacy Residents in a BMT/Oncology rotation
  • You will consolidate chemotherapy/biotherapy formulary and control costs
  • You will continuously review drugs of choice and monitor utilization
  • You will promote and demonstrate rational, cost-effective drug therapy
  • You will monitor the use of expensive medications to assure there is use consistent with approved criteria (e.g., chemo/biotherapy, antibiotics, IVIG, albumin, plerixafor, etc.)
  • You will perform Medication Use Evaluation (MUE) and drug monographs for biologics, chemotherapy, and other medications associated with this patient population
  • You will present recommendations to P&T You will track and document significant cost savings

What qualifications you will need:

Education

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

Experience


  • PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency OR 5 years clinical practice experience with minimum 2 years BMT and /or Oncology experience
  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) – preferred
  • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) with minimum 2 years BMT and/or Oncology experience acceptable - preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current Pharmacist license with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
