Experience and Education

High school diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years experience in physician practice plan or medical facility, healthcare, or medical insurance environment to include three (3) years supervisory experience and previous exposure to hospital or physician billing. Bachelor\'s degree and professional or hospital billing or customer service experience preferred.

Job Duties

1. Reviews details of hospital and professional billing to ensure all charges are processed and billed accurately and in timely manner.

2. Understands policies and procedures pertaining to maximization of reimbursement for all services rendered in compliance with established third party guidelines.

3. Designs and compiles financial reports for management to include analysis of revenue and medical service activity. Reports on trends.

4. Coordinates review of billing and collection efforts with MSP, University Hospitals, all third party payers, and clinical departments.

5. Analyzes issues pertaining to self-pay collections and customer service processes and procedures.

6. Completes root cause analysis for review with appropriate manager(s) in an effort to improve services and/or processes.

7. Upon determination of resolutions that impact statements, communicates with appropriate billing area to facilitate adjustments, reimbursements, corrections, etc.

8. Works with Associate Director to recommend billing compliant resolutions. Monitors and reports on outstanding account issues.

9. Acquires and maintains thorough knowledge of Federal and State Legislative and Administrative action affecting physician reimbursement.

10. Understands auditing and billing policies and procedures to ensure maximization of revenue for departments and hospitals.

11. Interacts with MSP and PFS Managers, Supervisors and Staff, Department billing office staff and management, University Risk Management, Legal and Compliance Staff.

12. Duties include speaking with patients regarding their billing complaints. Addresses issues that can be handled on the spot and explains the Institutions process for investigating concerns.
