SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

Under close supervision, this position will provide services to the agency’s residential population. Provide information, support and assistance and advocacy for clients and/or caregivers/family members of consumers of behavioral health services and to provide feedback and perspective to the behavioral health system relative to the impact and effectiveness of the services provided and to do other work as required.

DUTIES:

1. Communicates, represents and promotes the consumer and families/caregivers' perspective within the mental health system.

2. Facilitates self-help groups for consumers, youth, family members and caregivers.

3. Attends and participates in special events, conferences, workshops and training within the mental health system and in the community.

4. Shadow individual and group therapy sessions with assigned groups of clients, demonstrating knowledge of chemical dependence and co-dependence and the principles and techniques of group therapy.

5. Participates as an active member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team.

6. Collaborates with appropriate clinical staff, family members, probation officers, and social workers in planning for discharge and post discharge activities. Support staff should ensure discharge planning for employment and housing is done with each client.

7. Maintains appropriate and timely communication with treatment team members, family, significant others, and referral sources conveying a positive professional image.

8. Participates in case conferences, utilization review, and staff meetings.

9. Notifies the Residential Manager or designee before the termination of a client.

10. Participates as an active member or assigned committees.

11. Participates in scheduled in service and other appropriate training activities.

12. Performs other duties as related to direct service activity.

13. Maintains a pleasant and efficient manner with co-workers, clients, and the public.

14. Responds constructively to supervision and feedback in a professional manner.

15. Must maintain progress toward goals identified in annual performance evaluation by supervisor. Goals are constructed in order to maintain continuing education and skills acquisition.

16. Must have detailed knowledge of the treatment unit including housekeeping, maintenance, and health and safety knowledge and risk management.

17. Maintain adequate attendance to fulfill all job requirements without causing hardship to supervisors or company.

18. Support and adhere to the rules and regulations of the Board of Directors.

19. Perform special administrative tasks as determined by the supervisor.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

1. Staff is expected to complete all required Relias Trainings within the allotted time frame assigned by the supervisor.

2. Staff is expected to receive favorable scores on the direct client services section of customer surveys Likert scale.

3. Staff will be expected to communicate to Supervisor and Residential Manager or Designee issues concerning client(s).

4. Attend required meetings and/or trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or GED

2. Trained, registered or certified by a state approved credentialing organization/ peer support training certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and skills of:

● Requirements for providing the type of behavioral health recovery or treatment services needed by clients.

● Chemical dependence and co-dependence and the principles and techniques of group therapy.

● Treatment unit including housekeeping, maintenance, and health and safety knowledge and risk management.

● Models of addictions or other models related to alcohol and drug issues

● National, state, local, public, and private resources in health and human services or behavioral health services that pertain to addictions

● Principles of planning, development, and implementation as they pertain to drug/alcohol addiction counseling or other related programs.

● Computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite, database management, query reporting;

● Principles and techniques of supervision and training

● Welfare and Institutions Code

● Basic psychological, behavioral, sociological and cultural factors in dealing with those dealing with substance abuse

● Emergency procedures in residential care facilities

Ability to:

● Identify actual or potential problems or issues pertaining to behavioral health programs or services, address such problems, and develop or assist in developing effective resolutions;

● Exercise appropriate judgment when analyzing and projecting consequences of decisions and/or recommendations, including how decisions or recommendations;

● Exercise appropriate judgment when receiving and responding to questions and releasing information which may be confidential or sensitive in nature;

● Read, understand, interpret, apply, and explain complex documents such as laws, ordinances, legislation, regulations, requirements, policies, and procedures;

● Effectively organize and prioritize assignments, projects, and workload to meet deadlines that have strict timelines;

● Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;

● Establish and maintain effective relationships;

● Prepare reports and maintain records;

● Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;

● Work independently;

● Maintain confidentiality;

● Maintain professional appearance at all times;

● Maintain appropriate and timely communication with family, significant others, and referral sources conveying a positive professional image;

● Work at a rapid pace; exercising initiative, judgment, prioritization, multitasking, problem solving, decision- making with quality results;

● Develop, implement, and interpret policies and procedures and effectively communicate sensitive information verbally and in writing to a diverse population.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

● Must be insurable at standard automobile rates and maintain the ability to be insured throughout the course of employment

● Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance

● Department of Justice fingerprint clearance

● Negative tuberculosis test

● Pass drug screening test

  • Covid Vaccination Card or Medical/Religious Exemption

LICENSES:

● Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license during the course of employment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
