Job Description: A Senior Automation Estimator is responsible to produce accurate Job Description: The successful candidate will be a strong mechanical designer, experienced in designing various automated equipment solutions, special machines, and secondary equipment. The candidate will be responsible for designing mechanical systems and components for custom automation equipment, ensuring stipulated specifications and requirements are met and delivered within budget and time utilizing established procedures.

Reporting to: General Manager – Select Tool USA Inc.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Translate written design concepts/sketches, product data, and customer requirements/standards into fully functional SOLIDWORKS designs.

· Able to generate accurate Bills of Materials, and Detail Prints.

· Work in a collaborative environment with Project Managers, Build Manager, Manufacturing Manager, and Controls Manager.

· Develop and evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and optimal cost.

· Capable from design concept, through revisions, to final approved designs.

· Interact with vendors to determine proper and cost-effective purchased items.

· Participate in internal and customer design reviews with ability to effectively translate meeting minutes into final/approved designs.

· Assist Jr. Automation Designers on assigned projects.

· Work with builders to monitor assembly progress and update designs/details to “as built” when required.

· Evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost.

· Provide written and verbal work direction to team members.

· Ability to perform CAE simulations, FEA, and engineering calculations.

· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required competency and experience:

· 3 to 10 years design experience in an automotive environment.

· Experience with SOLIDWORKS mechanical design software.

· Strong interpersonal skills.

· Effective oral and written communications.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Detail orientated.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality on sensitive projects.

· Remain flexible while working in a fast paced, frequently changing environment.

· Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment as required.

· Strong mechanical aptitude.

· Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.

· Experience with robotics, vision systems, and other complex turn-key purchased mechanisms and sub-systems.

· Should have understanding of common mechanical engineering practices, standards, mechanisms, and purchased components.

· Understanding of machine ergonomics, serviceability, and maintenance.

· Should have strong troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.

· Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

Education:

· Minimum High School diploma.

· Technical School Graduate or equivalent experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Review, understand, and summarize customer request for quotes (RFQ’s).

· Contact customers for clarification or other correspondence if/as required.

· Review customer supplied data.

· Develop internal equipment concepts and feasibilities.

· Apply and input appropriate hours, material costs, and purchase costs to result in accurate cost models.

· Prepare formal quotes and proposals for submission to sales and customers.

· Work with internal departments to establish cost models based on actual data.

· Work with outside supplier base to obtain quotes/pricing on products to assure pricing accuracy.

· Other duties as required.

Skills & Experience:

· Extensive knowledge of Automation, Secondary Equipment, Special Machines, Robotics, Vision Systems etc.

· Plastic part processing such as ultrasonic welding, joining, punching/forming, adhesive apply and bonding systems, and various assembly process such as clipping, fastener driving, and riveting.

· Familiarity with SolidWorks and data manipulation.

· Direct experience with Mechanical Design, Machining Processes, Mechanical Assembly, and Controls/ Electrical/ Pneumatic / Hydraulic systems an asset.

· Understanding of quality systems (ISO), 5S, and Lean Manufacturing principles

Requirements:

· Ability to work in fast paced / team environment.

· Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines and schedules.

· Positively interact with Customers, colleagues, and management.

· Valid Ontario Driver’s license and Canadian Passport.

· Ability to travel to and within Canada, USA, and Mexico.

· Follow all Health and Safety procedures.

Education:

· College Graduate in the disciplines of either Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
