Job description
The teaching, research, and service efforts of the EXSS Department are supported by an outstanding faculty and staff, which currently includes: 33 full-time faculty (plus 6 new hires starting July 1), 9 part-time (fixed term) faculty, 20 joint appointment / adjunct faculty, 8 emeritus faculty, 25 full-time EXSS staff members, and 16 full-time Campus Recreation staff members.
- Fixed Term Faculty (Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor – Non-Tenure Track)
- Serve as director of experiential education for undergraduate students in Exercise and Sport Science within the Ideas in Action curriculum https://ideasinaction.unc.edu/reflection-integration/high-impact-experience/
o Manage and mentor students in their professional development to secure experiential education
- Develop and teach a course that focuses on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Health, Physical Activity and Sport for students from diverse life experiences and learning styles in the Exercise and Sport Science department
- May teach additional courses related to leadership and coaching education
- Participate in departmental and university service and governance functions.
- Opportunity for professional and research mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.
- Perform other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the Chair of the Department.
- A master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Sport Administration or related field and significant experience
- Demonstrated collegiate-level teaching and mentoring experience required
- A doctoral degree in Exercise and Sport Science, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Sport Administration or related field is preferred. ABD will be considered.
- Experience coordinating internships and/or experiential education preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills preferred
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
