POSITION TITLE: Associate Cook

POSITION PURPOSE AND OVERVIEW

The Associate Cook assists in the preparation, cooking, serving, dishwashing and clean-up of meals for guests and site staff. Assists in cleaning all facilities between groups, according to the established standards of cleanliness. Assists in accommodating guests in safe, clean and comfortable surroundings. Supports guest groups’ programs, and enhances guests’ enjoyment and camp/retreat experience by performing the essential duties.

Supervised by: Food Service Manager/Supervisor/Head Cook where applicable

Supervision responsibility for: n/a

Evaluation based on:

Annual Conference and the purpose of the Navigation Essential Ministries Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Washes, trims, cleans, peels, etc. vegetables, poultry and meats.
  • Cooks or heats food for meals.
  • Performs cleaning functions as needed.
  • Stores and takes inventory of kitchen equipment and food.
  • Washes dishes and stores them in appropriate storage area.
  • Cleans cabins, rest rooms, hallways, dusts furniture, washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Empties and washes wastebaskets and trash cans, and transports trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Replenishes rest room supplies

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities, and camper and staff behavior.
  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time

(60 minutes or more).

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY

▪ Excellent time management and organizational skills.

▪ Must be able to work independently and take initiative to complete tasks.

▪ Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices.

▪ Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods.

▪ Ability to thrive in a Christian ministry setting.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Culinary training preferred

Possession of, or ability to secure and maintain Food Handler's Certificate.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in providing and/or understanding of Christian hospitality.

Experience in food service.

Experience in institutional or large volume food service setting.
