Other Conditions:
Nine months of state funding annually. The appointee is expected to fund the remainder through extramural funds. Anticipated start date is August 1, 2023 or as mutually agreed. Pending position clearance.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Conduct original research in mineral physics and materials science.
2. Pursue and obtain extramural funding to support a vigorous research program.
3. Regularly publish findings in appropriate peer-reviewed journals and discipline-specific publications.
4. Teach at least one undergraduate or graduate course per year in materials science, mineral physics, or related instrumentation and analysis techniques, or other subjects related to HIGP and SOEST interests.
5. Supervise graduate students.
6. Provide experiential learning/research opportunities for undergraduate students.
7. Play a full and positive role in contributing, as a HIGP faculty member, to Institute governance.
8. Play a full and positive role in contributing to, and promoting, a collegial, respectful, and welcoming environment for faculty, staff, students, and post-docs within the Institute.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A doctorate from a college or university of recognized standing and in a field relevant to the position (e.g. engineering, geosciences, planetary science, physics, chemistry, astronomy).
2. Ability to generate independent research reports, publications and grant proposals.
3. Ability to interact effectively with students and/or assistants when appropriate.
4. Documented scholarly achievement, such as a record of publications in scholarly journals, in the field of materials science and mineral physics.
5. Commitment to excellence in teaching and/or mentoring students.
6. Initiative, interest in scientific work, and adaptability.
7. Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
