The Specialized Recreation & Inclusion Services (SRIS) permanent part time (PPM) will work under the direction of full time SRIS staff to provide quality, consistent customer service to the public, while also assisting with the oversight of all SRIS processes and administrative tasks. These tasks may include but are not limited to database management, email correspondence with staff and families, file management, research and developing new programs, training development, inventory of support materials, etc. Additionally, the position will work directly in programs to provide support to participants. Types of programs will vary dependent upon participant registration and may include but are not limited to: Quest (Adult Day Program), school year programs (before, after, track out, teacher workdays), summer camps, aquatics, arts, athletic programs, and so forth.

Work Hours:
This position will be scheduled primarily between the hours of 7:30 am – 6:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with a typical work schedule of 9:30 am - 5:30 pm. This position will work 25 hours per week, with the exception of City holidays. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.


This role works 25 hours per week as a Permanent Part-Time position and contributes to the Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System (LGERS) at a 6% employee contribution.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to participants with disabilities, who request support to participate in programs as noted above. This includes communication support, behavior support, personal care support, mobility support, medication/medical support, and so forth.
  • Supervise participants for safety and engage them in program activities.?
  • Implement individual inclusion plans to support participants.
  • Complete appropriate documentation such as observation forms, behavior documents, accident reports.
  • Assist full time supervisor with maintaining SRIS PT staff and volunteer schedules. Support will include recruiting staff/volunteers to cover programs and with communication of program updates, and assisting with payroll.
  • Assist full time supervisor with program marketing materials (flyers, email distributions, website information, etc.), VIP Braille Newsletter (sending off for print/pick up) and management of Monthly/Weekly Email Blasts.
  • Model appropriate strategies and coach other staff on how to implement them, modify program activities and provide alternative activity choices as needed.
  • Assist full time supervisor with research, documentation, planning, development and facilitation of trainings, managing supplies and support materials, and transporting them to the appropriate program location.
  • Attend and participate in all required trainings and staff meetings.
  • This role may assist our workgroup in transporting participants within programs, for which a valid North Carolina Class C Driver License (or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) is preferred, but not required to apply and be considered for this position.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required and 6 months of experience completing administrative tasks and project management and 6 months in working with individuals with disabilities. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older to apply.


OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.


Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree or higher level of education preferred in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Adaptive Physical Education, Nursing, or related field.
  • Specialized training/education and/or certifications related to working with individuals with disabilities.
  • 1 year of relevant experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Valid North Carolina Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 45 days of hire, may be preferred to assist with transportation of program participants.

ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, talking, and hearing.

Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed both indoors and outside.
