The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in history, political science, and sociology to support general education, Liberal Studies, and the Secondary Education Broadfield Social Science major; advise students effectively; continue the pursuit of scholarly achievement; provide service to the institution and regional communities; and participate as a cooperative team member for MSU-Northern.

We are seeking an innovative faculty member who is eager to participate in curricular and programmatic development. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to building a diverse community through their teaching, scholarship and service.

Duties and Responsibilities Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Ph.D. in History or related social science area from an accredited institution at time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and the ability to teach and work effectively with persons from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience teaching in social sciences at the collegiate level.
  • Experience teaching in K-12 education.
  • Experience and expertise in Native American Studies.
  • Experience as an effective advisor in higher education.
  • Demonstrated use of a variety of instructional technologies.
  • Experience with curricular development, programmatic development, and/or institutional assessment.

The College
The College of Arts, Sciences, and Education offers associate, undergraduate, and graduate degrees through programs that prepare students for work in fields spanning the humanities, social and physical sciences, professional education, public service, and leadership. Degree programs are represented by the Bachelor of Arts in four majors, the Bachelor of Science in two majors, the Bachelor of Science in Education in six majors, a Bachelor of Applied Science, and an Associate of Art in General Education. The College also offers two graduate programs including a Masters of Education in Counselor Education and a Masters of Science in Instruction and Learning.
The College’s Bachelor of Science in Education programs are accredited by the Montana Office of Public Instruction. MSU-Northern is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Title IX Coordinator

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with the University’s Discrimination and Grievance Policy. Specifically, the Title IX Coordinator:
  • Coordinates educational programs and trainings regarding discrimination and harassment prevention for students and employees;
  • Responds to and seeks to resolve reports of discrimination and harassment following the Procedures;
  • Provides information about and, if requested, assists with criminal reporting;
  • Provides information about resources for obtaining advocacy, healthcare, and counseling services; and
  • Coordinates supportive and protective measures for members of the MSUN community.
