Assistant Principal (workdays – 210)

Summary Description:
The Assistant Principal works closely with the Principal in the implementation of the school’s academic and culture systems. His/her primary responsibilities, in strong collaboration with the AP of Lower Grades TK-4, are the academic outcomes and establish a college-ready culture for grades 5-8 in alignment with the Grow Public Schools mission and academic model.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as an active member of the Academy’s leadership team promoting a culture of caring for both the academic and emotional welfare of students.
  • In collaboration with the Instructional Leadership Team, designs and executes teacher and SGI professional development.
  • Serves as SST case manager for respective grade level span.
  • In collaboration with the principal and Lower Grades AP, facilitates implementation of strong teaching and learning in every classroom.
  • In collaboration with the Principal and Lower Grades AP, ensures strong academic data monitoring systems remaining laser focused on student growth and achievement.
  • Directly evaluates, provides leadership and support for K-8 Counselor in the execution of social emotional learning, 8th grade promotion requirements and Tier 2 / 3 student supports.
  • Sets vision for Family and Community Engagement with Principal and AP of Lower Grades TK-4. Manages, develops and maintains family outreach programs and community partnerships. Including Parent Information Meetings, 8th grade expectation meetings and ELAC / SSC.
  • Evaluates and develops actionable annual growth plans for identified teachers at mid-year and end of year.
  • Responsible for evaluation of Small Group Instructors (SGIs) in grades 5-8.
  • Assists with student discipline, case management, and student safety issues in grades 5-8 while proactively connecting with families.
  • Oversees the implementation of the Academy’s Extended Learning Opportunity Program.
  • Serves as principal designee in the absence of the principal
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills
  • Ability to assess performance and develop methods and techniques for improvement
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively on projects

Required Education and experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Liberal Arts or related field
  • Clear California Teaching Credential
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
  • Previous experience in a related school or district leadership position (coach, counselor, director, administrator, etc.)

Desired Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in a related field (Education, Administration)
  • Previous experience in a related school or district leadership position (coach, curriculum specialist, director, administrator, etc.).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish proficiently is strongly preferred.

Experience working with economically underserved students.
