Under the direction of the Head Football Coach, this position assumes the role as Assistant Football Coach within the football program and all duties associated with that role. Assists the Head Football Coach with all phases of a highly competitive intercollegiate football program. Understands the role of Division III athletics in the educational process, and the importance of recruiting quality student-athletes who reflect and represent the character of the University of La Verne.

Specific Duties
  • Under an independent umbrella of specific ideals, lead assigned areas of the coaching staff and players by personally demonstrating the tenants of the overall football program (including but not limited to work ethic, passion, time management, team-first mentality, cultural diversity and camaraderie).
  • Determine coaching points via individual position manuals to teach players and coaches the successful fundamentals of each specific football position.
  • Assist the Head Football Coach with the recruitment of perspective student-athletes; including the annual enrollment of at least 10 student-athletes who engage and participate in the sport of football at the University.
  • Year-long tracking of the academic success of rostered football student-athletes. Including, but not limited to, grade and classroom monitoring for at-risk students; and communicating and informing the Head Coach of any discrepancies or challenges the students encounter.
  • Effectively scout opponent defensive/offensive schemes through the use of HUDL video system to determine and successfully prepare a defensive/offensive game plan that prevents the opposing team from successful operation.
  • Develop daily in-season practice plans for each individual position, including the preparation and creation of team functions in collaboration with the overall game plan. Must be in relation to the daily fundamental needs and specifically scouted game plans of the future opponent.
  • Hold all rostered student-athletes accountable to all football team and culture rules and regulations, as well as those of the NCAA, SCIAC, University through the established system of sanctions.
  • Create a self-evaluation and a re-evaluation of the success or failure of the overall assigned offensive/defensive scheme of the preceding year. Create and communicate this plan to the Head Football Coach before and in order to implement during non-traditional Spring practices.
  • Source vendors and purchase equipment specific to the individual fundamentals of each offensive/defensive position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A minimum of three year’s demonstrated successful coaching and recruiting experience at the college or university level.
  • Ability to organize and operate an effective football program while motivating and mentoring student-athletes. Includes (but not limited to) 3 years of collegiate football coaching experience, budget, team travel, inventory, equipment, uniforms, scheduling, fundraising, student-athlete academic progress, alumni relations, and rules compliance experience.
  • Ability to stay abreast of current and developing trends (video, voice, data, and computing technologies).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to race, gender, sexual preference/identity, physical limitations, class or religious perspectives.
  • Enthusiasm and the ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change and high pressure.
  • Ability to travel and recruit student athletes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to proficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs, utilizing proper grammar and punctuation.
  • Valid California Drivers License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • At least one year experience supervising and training employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling.
