This role will assist the DON in the total management, operation, and supervision of the Nursing Department to ensure a high-quality care and maintain State and Federal regulatory compliance.

Job Role and Responsibility:

  • Responsible for accurate and timely submission of Weekly Wound and Skin QAA
  • Participate in Monthly and Quarterly QAA Committee and Sub-Committee
  • Coordinate Interdisciplinary Care Planning Meetings and MDS process.
  • Assure accurate and timely completion of MDS documentation by all departments
  • Coordinate weekly Medicare Utilization Review meetings and maintain notebook
  • Responsible for assuring that all charts are following State and
  • Perform Quality Indicator Analysis, PPS Analysis, and any other computerized
  • Plan and conduct/coordinate monthly Unlicensed Staff meetings.
  • Maintain Staffing Schedules and effective staffing levels in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate weekly physicians’ visits for rectification and recopying orders with
  • Share On-call and Nursing rounds at night and on weekends with DON and
  • See DON, Nursing Supervisor, and Staff RN job descriptions.
  • Manages nursing personnel while on duty and in the absence of DON.
  • Works as a staff nurse when scheduled.
  • Direct supervision and duties

Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience in nursing and a minimum of two years' experience in geriatric nursing.
  • Good mental and physical health, sound judgment and high moral standards, and a sincere desire to work with the aged and those with limited capacity for self-care.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and staff a nursing department and all nursing services.
  • Capacity to grasp and effectively plan and implement new theories and principles.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, but also ability to coordinate nursing services with other departments.
  • Verbal ability necessary to understand medical records, policies and procedures, and regulatory guidelines; and ability to effectively communicate with facility Administration, Department Heads and Supervisors, Nursing Staff, residents, family members, and the public and regulatory agencies.
  • Manual dexterity necessary to coordinate hands, eyes, and fingers in performance of Staff RN duties. Clerical perception is required to maintain records.
  • Computer skills and knowledge.
  • Attendance at workshops and continuing education in this field is encouraged.

Education and Licensure Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a RN degree. Current registration with the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
