The Assistant Director performs accounting and analysis functions for the Foundation and for the College in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Prepares monthly financials and routine, ad hoc financial, and analytical reports. Assists with preparation of annual audit work papers for the MCC Foundation and Metropolitan Community College. Maintains files in enterprise resource system.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS :

1. Monitors assigned accounting sub-system(s); analyzes and reconciles accounting data and transactions; initiates contact with outside agent, institution, or with other MCC units to develop and implement a solution to accounting discrepancies.
a. Performs the work in a timely manner according to special financial and accounting practices defined and established for the assigned sub-system.
b. Analyzes complex reconciliation documents and other information to arrive at logical and accurate conclusions.
c. Determines appropriate corrective action to take when confronted with discrepancies and takes the initiative to assure that corrective action is completed.
d. Adequately analyzes the effects of transactions on reports, as well as accounting systems and sub-systems.
2. Prepares monthly Foundation financials and other Foundation Board reports as assigned.
3. Applies GAAP, FASB and applicable state and federal fiscal guidelines, and agency fiscal policies to record financial activity in accounting systems and varied sub-systems.
4. Serves as liaison to respond to inquiries for solution of routine accounting problems or for information or interpretation from third parties such as auditors and governmental entities. Notifies appropriate personnel of pending audit actions.
5. Maintains knowledge of endowment management, FASB and GAAP rules, current federal, state, department, trends and developments in the field. Applies relevant new knowledge to performance or responsibilities.
6. Balances and reconciles accounting records, such as journals, ledgers, batch reports, bank statements, assigned grants, agency-generated reports or related records. Determines sources of errors by researching accounting records. Records and/or directs correcting entries.
7. Provides support to auditors and other reviewers. Identifies and corrects procedural problems revealed in reviews and audits.
8. Identifies training needs, providing guidance and training to staff.
9. Oversees or participates in the compilation of data and prepares reports for the MCC Foundation Board of Directors.
10. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates assigned personnel, if any.
11. Attends MCC Foundation Board and Committee meetings.
12. Completes transactions and processes timely, consistently and accurately.
13. Maintains professionalism, decorum and interact cooperatively while representing the Foundation.
14. Communicates openly with Director of Foundation Accounting concerning any inconsistencies, issues identified.
15. Works collaboratively with Scholarship office, and financial aid to ensure accurate reporting on
16. Sponsorships and scholarships for Development’s reporting to constituents.
17. Preparation of 990.
18. Assists College accounting with reconciliation of events, grants or other activities involving Foundation and College reporting or other interfund transactions.
19. Quantifies data for Advancement communication to constituents and other key stakeholders.
20. Performs checks & balances when reviewing and authorizing accounting transactions.
21. Assists MCC Grant Accounting if needed.
22. Attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

1. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
2. Knowledge of applicable FASB and GAAP standards and pronouncements.
3. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use College provided software; e.g., Ellucian’s Colleague, Blackbaud’s Financial Edge, Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft Office products.
4. Knowledge of non-profit fund accounting regulations.
5. Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating staff.
6. Skill in demonstrating a cooperative and professional attitude.
7. Communication skills both written and orally, and excellent spelling, grammar, and editing skills.
8. Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
9. Ability to plan, organize and perform professional level accounting duties and apply governmental accounting and auditing principles and procedures in the work performed.
10. Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
11. Ability to perform complex analytical studies and draw sound conclusions.
12. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple departments and tasks.
13. Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to College and Foundation business.
14. Ability to use office equipment including computer, copier, scanner, and fax machine.
15. Ability to maintain professionalism, patience and understanding in stressful situations.
16. Ability to interact respectfully, maintain professionalism and decorum when representing the Foundation.
17. Identify and recommend solutions and/or efficiencies in processes.
18. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

Required Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent education plus five (5) years of full-time, work-related experience.

Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Salary/Hourly Rate $61,761 minimum Department Foundation Accounting
