University Housing - Inclusion and Talent Development

Inclusion and Talent Development (ITD), is a new office committed to creating a positive sense of belonging for all University Housing community members. Job Summary
The Assistant Director leads and supports trainings, programs and initiatives to advance the department's diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic goals. The Assistant Director is responsible for the development and execution of the University Housing talent development program, which includes life cycle activities of assessing needs, planning, developing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating priorities for staff.

All University Housing staff will engage and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within University Housing.

Duties & Responsibilities

Program Development and Project Management

  • Develop, plan, execute, and evaluate training and development opportunities for all University Housing staff.
  • Plan and execute University Housing’s Annual Equity and Inclusion staff training.
  • Design, plan, and implement training and development for University Housing supervisors.
  • Coordinate University Housing’s staff Coaching Program.
  • Lead the University Housing Talent Development Committee in developing goals, objectives, and programs.
  • Coordinate the production of informational aids and training materials.

Leadership and Administration

  • Develop and execute talent development programming.
  • Serve as unit lead in the absence of Director of Inclusion and Talent Development.
  • Participate in the selection, training, and oversight of student staff.
  • Engage and implement University Housing’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Collaborate and contribute to initiatives, policy and procedure development to help execute strategic goals.
  • Chair and serve on unit and departmental committees, including the University Housing Inclusion Committee.
  • Serve on campus committees and working groups related to inclusion and talent development, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with departmental leaders on comprehensive plans to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.

Employee Relations and Engagement

  • Coordinate and oversee diversity and inclusion employee affinity resource groups’ priorities and activities.
  • Advise employees on development strategies to enhance skills, competencies, and performance.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to provide resources for identified skill and knowledge gaps of staff
  • Facilitate staff dialogues and workshops to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion knowledge and awareness.

Other General Duties

  • Assist with the operational development of Inclusion and Talent Development special projects and initiatives.
  • Manage and facilitate ad hoc and ongoing projects, including establishing timelines, identifying resources, determining tasks, and insuring deliverables.
  • Provide written reports and/or justification to support project efforts.




Required Qualifications

1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling four years (48 months), from the categories below:

  • Credit for college training leading to a major or concentration in education or other fields related to training and development such as human resource administration or business administration or closely related fields
    • 30 semester hours equals 12 months
    • 60 semester hours equals 24 months
    • 90 semester hours equals 36 months
    • 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 48 months
  • Credit for college training leading to a major or concentration in fields other than those previously listed
    • Bachelor’s Degree equals 3 years (36 months)
    • Master’s Degree equals 4 years (48 months)
  • Work experience as a human resource or training professional
  • 2. Two years of professional work experience in the training and development profession 1

    • A Master's degree in education or other fields closely related to training and development (such as human resource administration or business administration) or a Master's degree with a concentration in these fields may be substituted for one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION PREFERRED:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Human Resource Development, Management, Organizational Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration, Diversity Education, Higher Education, Social Work or a field closely related to the position.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Certified facilitator for Myers-Briggs (MBTI), DiSC, True Colors, StrengthsFinder, or a similar tool.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Three (3) or more years of progressive work experience performing professional-level talent development duties and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging activities.
  • Professional experience with strategic planning, dialogue facilitation, change management, and/or organizational development.
  • Work experience in a Higher Education.
  • Work experience in college student housing setting.
  • Two (2) years of related work experience performing professional-level talent development duties and diversity, equity, and inclusion activities.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and facilitating training and development programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and implementation.
  • Experience promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Ability to engage in partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Skilled in developing and leading training events.
  • Ability to assess staff training and development needs then develop, coordinate, and evaluate training programs.

Preferred:

  • Skilled in designing and implementing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategies, including addressing system and policy issues and facilitating discussions.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of the University of Illinois campus structure.
  • Skilled in developing and implementing training for 500+ persons.
  • Ability to design and execute complex projects and initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
  • Skilled in supervising full-time professionals.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 4693 - Training and Development Specialist I position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/3/2023. The salary for this position starts at $55,000 and is commensurate with experience.
