Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Communication is responsible for the development and implementation of internal and external communication strategies for the Visitor Center. Communication methods will include a combination of web and digital outreach, portal development, social media and print collateral.
This position will manage the communication plan and production schedule; oversee the production of all print, portal, digital, display and promotional materials; and serve as a liaison between the Visitor Center and Admissions, Integrated Communications and other campus partners. Additionally, the Assistant Director will support the University Ambassadors and Visitor Center staff through collaboration on internal communication, programming and assessment activities.
This position contributes to the development of communication strategies that determine the success of USC’s enrollment goals. The Assistant Director is also expected to periodically participate in various on and off-campus activities and events.
Position requires some evening and weekend work.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with marketing and/or communications in higher education setting, especially campus visit programming and/or enrollment management.
  • Expertise in managing multiple projects from concept stage through production and delivery and in using project management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to use full suite of Adobe products, particularly those related to graphic design.
  • Experience in marketing, graphic design, higher education, journalism, video production or a closely related field.
  • General knowledge of web design or development and Technolutions Slate or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills, mastery of logistics and high level of attention to detail relative to managing multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate and negotiate with others to arrive at amendable solutions and deliverables.
  • Must be able to cultivate and manage key relationships with internal constituents, university partners, and external vendors.
  • Keen understanding of print industry terminology and graphic design principles and production cycles in developing publications and other deliverables.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.
  • Understanding of print, digital marketing, recruiting, and special events to ensure effective collaboration with colleagues who manage those areas.
  • General knowledge of or experience in photography and editing/proofing in line with AP Stylebook conventions.
  • Understanding of trends in marketing to prospective families (teens and parents).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe CS applications.
  • Coordination with external resources, when needed, on the dissemination of marketing materials.
  • Must be able to work independently and with little direct supervision, but also collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Must be able to read, research, and evaluate applicant credentials.
