Title: Assistant Director, Bright Beginnings Learning Center (BBLC)

Purpose: Bright Beginnings Learning Center (BBLC) is a ministry of the University United
Methodist Church (UUMC). The Assistant Director assists the Director in performing duties and responsibilities that maintain the good standing of the BBLC and sustain the mission and ministry of UUMC.

Position Summary: This position requires a call and passion to serve God through the mission of the church and preschool, and to be a continuous learner in that service. The Assistant
Director serves the BBLC and UUMC through knowledgeable leadership and demonstrated initiative to support the UUMC and BBLC mission, goals and objectives; assists with teacher supervision and curriculum development; engages with children, parents, guardians and the community; successfully applies for grants and other funding for the BBLC; and assists with the business and operational affairs of the BBLC. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Head of School of the BBLC and receives an annual performance evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: State of New Mexico regulations and requirements for childcare and preschool centers; United Methodist operational procedures and guidelines for childcare and preschool centers; curricular development for early childhood and preschool aged children; administrative and finance procedures and technology tools used for operating and managing childcare centers and preschools.

Skills & Characteristics: The Assistant Director is an important outlooking face of BBLC and may be the initial contact for parents, grandparents, guardians and others. In addition to administrative and educational skills, this person must demonstrate professionalism and
Christian care in all such interactions. Additional skills include a love and curiosity for diversity with ability for intercultural networking and clear communication to a variety of audiences; strong oral and written communication; grant writing; and a variety of electronic software applications as needed.

Ability to: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, families and church personnel; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze problems and create effective solutions; maintain an attitude of service; maintain strong ethical standards; respect and maintain student confidentiality; demonstrate spiritual compassion within a professional framework.

Requirements:

  • 24 credit-bearing hours of specialized college level course work in Early Childhood

  • Knowledge of New Mexico Early Childhood Program standards.
  • Experience working in a preschool or another like facility
  • State mandated background investigation check.
  • Complete Safe Sanctuary class prior to hire date.
  • Annually attend 24 credit hours of required training to maintain state accreditation.

Qualifications:
Licensed for New Mexico preschool director
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, or equivalent experience

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the director in completing the following duties
Staff and Administration

  • Supervising teachers and instructional assistants, including with interviewing and hiring practices; training; evaluation; conflict resolution; instructional support and mentoring; notification and provision of professional development; staff meetings.
  • Maintaining BBLC compliance with Early Childhood Education Care Department

(ECECD) hiring protocol and staff licensing and training requirements.

  • Maintaining handbooks and contracts; developing and maintaining BBLC calendar and schedule.

Curriculum

  • Oversight of curriculum and classroom requirements consistent with ECECD licensing including the FOCUS program as they pertain to BBLC through the use of actual licensing regulations and FOCUS Portfolio Collection Forms.
  • Curriculum and assessment development and implementation; assisting in developing instructional plans around thematic units; training and assisting teachers in administration and interpretation of instructional assessments; collecting documentation for program evaluation and reporting.

Families

  • Recruit and maintain enrollment for BBLC; register and enroll students; maintain and distribute family handbook; in collaboration with staff, develop and implement parent training and family nights; establish and maintain an active program of parental involvement/partnerships; develop and distribute newsletters

Business Administration and Finance

  • Maintain student records; collect and process tuition and fees in accordance with BBLC and UUMC policy.
  • Purchases needed supplies; reviews and submits payroll and reimbursement paperwork; distributes checks in accordance with UUMC policy; Identifies and schedules fundraising opportunities.
  • Identifies opportunities and successfully applies for grant awards that aid and support

BBLC operations and facilities and BBLC families.

  • Sets up door access security codes for staff; summits all work order requests and room requests in timely manner to UUMC Trustees.

Conditions : The BBLC has been in operation for 20 years. This position and contract is contingent upon funding and enrollment numbers to support the salary and position.

Compensation:
Work hours/Job Type: In-person, full-time hourly, 35-40 hrs/wk, Mon.-Fri.

Hourly Wage: $16.00/hr or dependent upon experience and qualifications.

Reports to and evaluated annually by: Head of School, BBLC and Senior Pastor

Health insurance benefits, vacation time and sick time are per UUMC Personnel Policies and
Procedures Handbook.

Holidays: New Year’s Eve; New Year’s Day; MLK, Jr. Day; Presidents’ Day; Easter Monday;
Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day and following Friday; Christmas
Eve (except for services); Christmas Day.
