The Assistant Director/Faculty & Staff Resources serves Central Michigan University through the oversight of the faculty approval and assignment functions for those faculty who teach at off-campus locations and/or online courses, and is responsible for all personnel functions related to the university’s off-campus and online Adjunct Faculty. Upon request, this role may provide guidance and expertise to the Academic Division concerning faculty & staff resources and related compliance matters to ensure adherence with evolving accrediting and licensing bodies, federal and state law where appropriate, and with CMU policies and practices while working collaboratively with and in support of CMU Human Resources and CMU Faculty Personnel Services. This role also champions process improvement and participates in cross-functional teams and university workgroup

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Three years of relevant professional experience.
Demonstrated effectiveness with Microsoft applications.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to project a positive, professional, and credible attitude.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team while inspiring trust and confidence with colleagues.
Ability to successfully handle competing priorities in a timely fashion.
Ability to work full-time from the designated on-site work location during the standard 8am-5pm office hours.
Ability to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours, if necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated recruitment experience.
PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
Experience within a multi-site work and/or online environment.
Familiarity with higher education or other educational environments.

Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for all personnel functions related to adjunct faculty, including but not limited to, the following:
Oversees the Faculty Approval, Faculty Assignment, and Faculty Recruiting units, including supervising staff members, SAP administration (processes new hires, facilitates termination, updates relevant information (name changes, address changes, etc.).
Ensures faculty approval and assignment processes comply with Faculty Association Agreement, the Union of Teaching Faculty agreement, with university policies and practices, and with applicable laws, statutes, and regulations.
Serves as the subject matter expert for processes and systems related to adjunct faculty as well as recruiting, approval, and assignments responsibilities.
Oversees the completion and retention of adjunct faculty new employment paperwork, e.g., I-9, W-4, etc.
Works closely with the Executive Director/Licensure, Regulatory Services & Human Capital (“Licensure”) in identifying opportunities to maximize use of technology to enhance the effectiveness of the Licensure department.
Provides guidance for and assists in the administration, review, and approval process of recruitment, compensation, student employment, FMLA, and other HR related activities as necessary for the Academic Division, in collaboration with HR/FPS.
Provides support and acts as liaison to various CMU departments concerning adjunct faculty related issues.
Maintains thorough communication with the Executive Director/Licensure and assists in communicating any changes in human resource programs, practices, policies and procedures, announcements, and/or activities with Academic Division staff.
Handles worker’s compensation responsibilities for locations outside of Michigan.
Monitors, understands, and recommends compliance strategies concerning regulatory requirements for out-of-state staff and adjunct faculty taking into consideration the impact of these mandates, and communicating appropriately with potentially impacted stakeholders.
Maintains regular, effective, and collaborative communications with Part-Time Adjunct Faculty.
Creates and maintains process and operational documents, especially those pertaining to employment compliance and those compliance or regulatory concerns affecting adjunct faculty.
Develops, prepares, generates and analyzes on-going special and ad-hoc query reports pertaining to Academic Division staff (as requested) and adjunct faculty metrics.
Identifies issues and opportunities impacting the department and recommends solutions and strategies supporting and concerning the above-outlined responsibilities using accurate and complete data.
Serves on, and assists, university committees when necessary; participates in cross-functional teams to assist with analysis, problem resolution, and opportunity identification and/or implementation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
