Job Summary: The Assistant/Associate Director of Social Media and Engagement (AD) serves as the key social media content producer and distributor within the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM). The position is responsible for implementing an innovative and creative strategy for content (text, video, photos and graphics) and coordinating dynamic and responsive content to strengthen and enhance the College's brand, image and awareness.

Through social media management, the AD will ensure that content is distributed across Hanover's official social media platforms. The AD will tailor content to ensure top performance, leverage content to share the College's story, increase brand awareness and strengthen engagement with the online community. The AD will maintain a unique voice on all platforms that reflects the brand and elevates the accounts. The AD will oversee departmental accounts across campus and monitor all subsidiary accounts to maintain compliance with Hanover's social media guidelines and best practices.

The AD should be a passionate storyteller and bring creative pieces – about people, programs, student life and research – to life for a variety of audiences. The AD, in collaboration with the Associate Director for Multimedia Content and Associate Vice President for Communications and Marketing, will be responsible for concepting, developing, scripting, editing and producing content that can be used on social media and additional digital media platforms. These projects will demonstrate the AD's ability to blend skills with photography, videography, interviewing, talent direction and the creation of custom graphics and animation.

Essentional Functions:

Social Media Management (75%)

  • Create original content for Hanover's social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedln and TikTok) and other platforms (online, print ...)
  • Produce vertical video content to distribute on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram
  • Maintain a calendar of the College's activities and produce content in a timely manner to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Schedule and publish content, proof copy for headlines, descriptions and video tags, create thumbnails as needed
  • Identify audience trends and interactions, monitor analytics and adapt content maximize engagement
  • Create digital campaigns to build community and brand awareness
  • Engage and monitor social media users on all official Hanover social media platforms
  • Gain access to studentgenerated content through collaboration with admission ambassadors, student photographers and others
  • Oversee and collaborate on content creation with social media managers for departmental accounts (ex: alumni, physical therapy, athletics ...)
  • Ensure all departmental accounts across campus (33 currently) adhere to social media guidelines and maintain best practices on all platforms that are affiliated with Hanover
  • Train other departments on using HootSuite.com to manage, publish content
  • Explore development and execution of new storytelling avenues (i.e., reels, campus podcast, online magazine, campus blog, campus vlog ...)

Photography and Videography (20%)

  • Plan and execute video/photo shoots throughout all stages
  • Set up and operate all photography and videography equipment
  • Capture photos for campus events, College magazine, hanover.edu and client requests, as appropriate
  • Edit all original media content utilizing Adobe Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, After Effects and Illustrator)
  • Manage and archive digital assets

Website Content (5%)

  • Create pages, revise current site content and edit copy for hanover.edu
  • Collaborate with content creators to ensure the timely posting of features, current events and news stories on hanover.edu
  • Foster innovative approaches to story distribution, such as tailoring stories to multiple outlets, including but not limited to Hanover social media accounts, YouTube, hanover.edu and the Hanoverian magazine.

Other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Education required: Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred in a related discipline.

Essential skills: Possess a sharp attention to detail and ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects. Strong ability to conceptualize, design and create content to effectively maximize the College's brand.

Skills required/preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience in creation and production of original social media content
  • Experience aligning content copy/ text with the brand's voice
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and clients at one time
  • Demonstrated experience in photography, videography and graphic design
  • Demonstrated proficiency in photo and video editing, visual effects, compositing and motion graphics

• Video editing via TikTok, Instagram Reels and Adobe Premiere • Graphic design using Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Illustrator

  • Demonstrated experience using hootsuite.com to manage multiple social media accounts, users and content
  • Demonstrated experience with Canon DSLR cameras, studio lights, tripods, stabilizers, wired and wireless microphones, audio recorders and mixers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft OneDrive to share files, create presentations, spreadsheets and documents
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate off-hours events and completion of urgent project
