Aspen Grove is seeking an experienced Assistant Area Controller who can be a primary point of contact for our branches along the east coast. The ideal candidate will be located on the east coast, preferably in the North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Maryland area. This position is remote but requires travel 25-50% of the time to our various branches within the region. To succeed in this role, you should be detail-oriented, well organized with good follow-up skills, able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, and work in a team environment.

Typical Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with and streamline communication between the corporate staff and branch personnel.
  • Evaluate, develop, and improve department controls and procedures to ensure completeness and accuracy and increase efficiency.
  • Oversee the accounting for the branches within your region to include AR, AP, payroll, and all other accounting functions.
  • Complete month-end and annual reports accurately and on time.
  • Analyze financial data and reports, such as profit and loss statements, sales reports, and job costing data using Excel and other programs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records and participate in audits or reconciliations as needed.
  • Assist the branches as they develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the business.
  • Review and correct general ledger entry coding.
  • Assist local administrators in coding invoices, setting up new accounts, reconciling accounts, and closing the monthly books.
  • Oversee accounts receivable collections process and assist the branches in researching cash application with corporate staff.
  • Oversee monthly inventory counts, identify and document causes of variances, recommend process changes as needed
  • Review service revenue earnings to ensure all costs are captured timely and coded accurately.
  • Assist in gathering necessary information and documents for annual audit.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 4-10 years of experience in accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred
  • High speed internet
  • Able to work Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm, with occasional weekends if needed.
  • Able to work independently and with a high level of productivity
  • Driver’s license and good driving record
  • Able to multi-task and work through problems to a resolution without creating added conflict
  • Proficiency with computers, especially bookkeeping software and Microsoft Office (Excel). Experience with PeopleSoft Financials and/or Power BI a plus.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to analyze large amounts of data
