Job description

Under the direction and supervision of the Administrator the Asst. Administrator is
delegated with responsibility and authority for the internal operations of the facility in
accordance with current Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations,
facility policies, and as may be directed by Alden Management Services.

QUALIFICATIONS
A. High school education or equivalent; college education or licensed nurse
qualifications preferred.
B. Knowledge of Long Term Care preferred.
C. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an
understandable manner and communicate effectively.
D. Must be able to deal tactfully and have the ability to work effectively with
residents, families, personnel, support agencies and the general public.
E. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances
warrant such action.
F. Must have patience, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition.
G. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work
harmoniously with all personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
B. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
C. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these
senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be
fully met.
D. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to
work effectively with residents, visitors, personnel, and support agencies.
E. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
F. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset,
and at times hostile people.
G. May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc.,
throughout the day.
H. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including
exposure to the (HIV) Aids and Hepatitis B viruses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the facility in its
programs and activities.
B. Assure that all procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
C. Directly supervise employees and instruct staff providing in-services training to
promote job knowledge.
D. Identify problems, develop and implement solutions with the assistance of Alden
Management Services.
E. Assure that quality care is being rendered.
F. Assure the necessary and appropriate information to facilitate the admission of
the residents to the facility from the home, hospital, or other facility, and to
complete the paperwork necessary for the admission process.
G. Represent the facility to clients, hospitals, and community agencies, establishing
a good rapport with the transferring institutions.
H. Provide direction for the entire facility in the absence of the Administrator.
I. Review the facility policy and procedure manual, job descriptions, cleaning
schedules, etc., at least annually for revisions and make recommendations to the
Administrator.
J. Ensure that all personnel follow established departmental policies and
procedures, including appropriate dress code.
K. Attends and actively participates in resident care plan conference when
indicated.
L. Investigate and follow through on all concerns made by the resident or their
family. Communicate status thereof to complainant.
M. Meet with personnel on a regularly basis to assist in identifying and correcting
problem areas and/or the improvement of services.
N. Schedule department work hours, personnel, work assignments, etc., to
expedite work.
O. Counsel/discipline personnel as necessary.
P. Complete performance evaluations timely.
Q. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive
emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
R. Plan, conduct, and participate in In-service Education Programs.
S. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of an effective orientation
program that orients the new employee to the facility, his/her department, and
its policies and procedures.
T. Attend and participate in continuing education programs.
U. Recommend required changes to improve resident care, stay within budget, or
both.
V. Recommend improvements in facility physical plant and equipment.
W. Handle employee grievances and report to Administrator.
X. Supervise building and ground cleaning, and maintenance to assure that the
facility is clean, odor free and attractive in appearance.
Y. Conduct periodic evening, night and weekend rounds of the facility to determine
if the facility is being operated according to policies, procedures and regulations.

Z. Educate all staff on the importance of customer service.
