Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with technical support centers in South East Asia and East Africa, that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other federal agencies, all over the world.


The Architect will be part of the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Space and Facilities Division (SFMD) who manages and modifies space and facilities at the main campus and regional offices nationwide. The team is tasked to plan and prepare space for business units to ensure business units have the appropriate and efficient space to meet mission needs.


The work is onsite at the USPTO Headquarters, Alexandria, VA, and contingent on the award of the contract.


Key responsibilities:

  • Provide design support for the management of interior renovations, additions, repairs and alteration projects.
  • Prepare space drawings using CAD
  • Manage space planning
  • Integration of completed projects into the integrated workplace management systems (IWMS)
  • Ensure that all work conform with applicable federal government regulations and policies and other agency supplemental regulations and policies
  • Conduct field verifications, inspections and construction oversight
  • Develop space drawings, schematic design of site plans, floor plans and elevations
  • Assist in space planning tasks and provide recommendations on restacking, furniture plans and relocation
  • Provide furniture cost estimates, specification and documentation
  • Review existing facilities and update the database of floor plans as needed
  • Ensure drawings and documents are complete in order to obtain necessary permits
  • Ensure monthly status reports are submitted
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications To be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' design experience
  • With extensive design theory, space planning, and project management knowledge
  • Familiar with the federal government design regulations and policies
  • Computer literate: Autodesk, AutoCAD, Microsoft One Note, and Project
  • Knowledgeable on the use of Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS)
  • Strong communication skills in English both written and oral. Experience in preparing correspondence, written reports, and maintaining official project records. Experience in conducting meetings, and briefing clients and management personnel.
  • Knowledge of safety practices in the construction industry
  • Must lawfully reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits)
