Archaeological Monitoring Lead

POWER Engineers, Inc., one of the nation’s strongest energy-related engineering and environmental consultants, is seeking one Archaeological Monitoring Lead for fieldwork on multiple archaeological field projects in Washington State, Oregon, Nevada, and California. We prefer a resident of southern Oregon or northern California. We are willing to relocate you and cover the expense three months after the position is assigned.

This is a full-time position. Pay will be determined by education and experience. Single-occupancy hotel rooms, archaeological field equipment, and rental vehicles will be provided. Per diem may be possible depending on Client allowances. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to perform long-term monitoring projects and intensive archaeological survey work in the far Western U.S. Projects which may involve extended periods of fieldwork in remote areas. Additional work/tasks may arise providing additional work opportunities.

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

The Monitoring Lead provides technical support, utilizing a basic understanding of anthropological and archaeological field techniques in connection with construction work, locating, testing, recording, mapping, and evaluating archaeological sites, and supporting field surveys. Conducting field surveys (pedestrian and shovel test surveys) using topographic maps, aerial photographs, and ESRI Field Maps GPS data collection software will be an occasional part of this role.

This position requires the ability to work long hours, in difficult or remote environments, and in varying weather conditions and the ability to work with groups composed of diverse personalities. A positive attitude and ability to accept direction is a must, as well as the ability to work independently and to fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction.

Minimum Required Education/Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Archeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline

· Previous CRM field experience or academic archaeological field school

· Up to date OSHA-10 Training certificate

· Knowledge and understanding of equipment, technology, and paperwork used in the recording and documenting of archeological sites and artifacts

· Ability to learn about local cultural history and material culture in project areas

· Ability to work independently, and to fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction

· Knowledge of health and safety standards

· Valid driver’s license

· Ability to work long hours in harsh environments and in varying weather conditions

· Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with team members

· Ability to pass a drug test and maintain a drug-free work environment

Desired Education/Experience

· Master's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline

· Experience in utility transmission, pipeline, and petrochemical exploration projects is highly preferred

· Extensive archaeological monitoring experience is required.

· Experience with both block and linear survey is highly preferred

· CPR/First Aid certifications and experience

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $30- $40 per hour; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
